The U.S. needs to just give China it's blessing to "annex" N. Korea and do what they need to do to take control of their new property.

Not really. It's all about history. Dictatorships = trouble. See WWII, Japan and Germany. After WWII they embrace freedom and democracy. No problems since.
USSR... Communism = trouble. They break out in democracy = no problems. And we didn't have to overthrow them.
China is moving away from Communism toward free markets gradually. If NK's dictatorship is ever eliminated it will have to be with Chinese help.

Honestly, this really isn't disputable. Statism is religion there and the dictator is their god.
A couple nukes to Pyongyang would put them out of their misery for the most part.

I'm guessing each one of those 300 officials was thinking, "If I was the rest of you guys, I'd be worried right about now." In scenarios like this, everyone thinks they are one of the favored ones. The strategy may be to keep those senior officials "scared straight" - but the mentality of such officials in governments like that is "You're fricked, because you're on the bad list, but I'll be fine, because I'm on the good list."

There would be no way to have a successful land invasion. The loss of American troops would be massive. And not just from the standing army. The peasents would be in the streets mobbing the invading army; attacking with sticks and rocks.

I doubt the North Korean army is very formidable. Large perhaps but like Hussein's in desert storm--poorly motivated and under armed.
The country can't even produce enough energy for lights let alone for war.
Now not even the Chinese will give them weapons and fuel to wage a war.
This guy is young. Let me wither away under 40 more years of him as far as I am concerned.
The Kim family seems to only stir crap when things are the worse in the country. They will soon threaten some war but this time they may very well get it.
