I know there is a huge risk of a high casualty count. But how long does this patience game of sanctions, etc. drag out? Fall 2017, 2018??

As soon as they overshoot the Sea of Japan.

Probably so....hope the patience strategy doesn't come back to bite us.

We've got over 40,000 soldiers in harm's way so we're kinda limited with our choices. We'd almost have to go all in and first strike fat Kim to keep them from retaliating.

Decapitation strike. NK falls with a whimper.

We have three carrier groups in the region, no?
We'll get an air campaign that quickly turns into a conventional war.

Trump and China negotiate the reunification of N and S Korea. Trump wins reelection in a landslide.

This seems to indicate a desire on your part for war vs NK?
No?

It's not just about regime change. This is a country of brainwashed civilians who believe their leader is a god. What happens after Kim Jong Un is deposed? Even hardcore British neoconservative Douglas Murray said on Fox the other day you'd need 2 million psychiatrists instead of 2 million troops if we somehow deposed Kim Jong Un.
North Korea's existence is a problem now, but a full scale civil war being waged on the Korean Peninsula, in such close proximity to China and Russia, should not be our endgame.

The most unquoted nation in all of this is SK.
They have the same concerns I think.

My guess is nothing, barring they don't do something extreme. It becomes a new, scarier world.

Let's start with a psychiatrist for YOU goat. Always someone trying to read too much into someone's words.

Will North Korea will be that hard to topple down? I mean we can level it in like 1 day flat...
Posted on 6/23/17 at 7:54 pm to Duzz
No, not that difficult to topple. The problem is the loss of life (SK, Japan, etc.) and geopolitical predicament (China/Russia).

Imperial Japan didn't put up much of a fight when their god fell. I doubt the starving citizens of NK would either if it's handled correctly.

Un will be assassinated.

True, but we left Hirohito as emperor in name and he was able to deliver the proper message to the people.
We would need to keep Fatboy in captivity (very comfortable captivity with lots of hookers and blow) to get him to endorse the regime change.

I would also like to add that this whole predicament belongs to Clinton/Bush/Obama. This should've solved long before it got to this point.

So what was the answer to solve all this that they missed?

Preemptive strike wouldn't have been such a bad idea. Looking back, should we have taken out Iraq or North Korea? They were both part of the "Axis of Evil". They were infinitely weaker in the Clinton and Bush administrations, but started to poke the bear then. Now it's gotten out of hand.
