Even if they did, I guarantee you the cameras would "malfunction" more than McDonalds shake machines.

Best post I've seen in a long time.

During a nystagmus test, a cop accused me of moving my head. I was looking forward to seeing the dashcam video for redemption. The cop is standing in front of the camera, so all you see is his backside and hear his commentary that "You're moving your head. You're moving your head!" That was a deliberate tactic by that deputy, which is probably used routinely to convict a lot of people who have to rely on their word against the cop's in front of a judge. That's the kind of bullshite that cops can use cameras for.

Cops suck.

Many do but "forget to record" when they know they're in the wrong. They also want to film you but when you film them they get pissed.

I know some officers get disciplined for not turning them on. It's a pretty easy fix.

While there is no simple fix to race relations in any part of American life, there is an obvious way to reduce violent law enforcement confrontations while also building trust in cops: Police should be required to use wearable cameras and record their interactions with citizens. These cameras—various models are already on the market—are small and unobtrusive and include safeguards against subsequent manipulation

fricking eminently reasonable.

No you don't. The interstate would be a parking lot. If they were held to a extremely strict driving standard like that no one would pass them. Then everyone would be stuck doing the speed limit. If I had to do 60 mph, I'd write every fool that exceeded 60 mph just to be an arse.

This. I start at 15+ over. Judge asked me why so high one time. Your Honor, I like to make sure they meant to do it. Got a nod and a guilty verdict on 23 over.

That will get you an upvote sir.

I have seen these lapel cameras being used in Comal county in Texas. The cops can't turn them off, they record their entire shift. I am sure they are allowed to turn them off during bathroom breaks.

I would prefer something like a better designed Google glass. To better see what the officer sees. Perspective is everything.
