well that is just you then
I would expect state law to quickly stop this, much like the link provided by ATL

What, exactly, is the purpose?
Since when does a private interest have to declare a purpose for its legal activities?
How would you like it if you wanted to gain access to public information and the government won't release it until you tell them why you want it? Isn't it public information? Do you really want to restrict the right to free speech? That's not a very conservative position.
Perhaps instead of bitching about the press wanting to publish public information, maybe a better approach would be to persue changing the CC agreement with the government.
Personally I would never put my name on a government list of people who are potentially carrying deadly weapons. As a matter of fact, I make it a practice to have my name on as few government lists as I have control over.

If the citizens of liberal, anti-gun, statist NYC has a problem with this, surely that's a sign that something's wrong with this?

That's silly. After all, you're armed and proud. No reason to hide behind a username.

If the state criminalized peaceful assemblies without a permit, would it be free game to publish all permits requested?
What?
Of course.
There are already laws with respcet to public assemblies, and of COURSE that information should be made public. I happen to believe that everything the government does, or tracks, should be public information. You don't? :chilling:

maybe someone could make a DB somewhere and come up with some meaningful trends, indicators, you know... stuff like that.
WTF is wrong with this thread?
Of COURSE they have databases for medical procedures performed, with meaningful trends, as well as databases of incidents of disease. This is the foundation of epidemiology.

IOW, don't apply for a CCW? Got it.
I wouldn't. I believe you're a naive sucker if you do and you think that's not a matter of public record.

If the Gov't gets what they want, and doctors must report a person's depression, suicidal thoughts, etc.. so that it can be listed under reasons not to allow sale of a firearm.. then that too should be public record? After all, it would be info the Gov't has at this point.

Of course. That's why I'm against the government tracking this type of information.
Why are you so in favor of the government keeping information from the public?

Income tax records?
Sure, as long as there is an income tax.

VA medical records?
I believe doctor/patient confidentiality should supercede public records requests.
There sure a lot of big government liberals all up in this thread.

Sure.
If you want the government to keep secrets from the public, then you should actively work to change the CC agreement between citizens and the State. OR, you should just not CC if you don't want the government, ie the People, to know you carry. OR, carry illegally but judiciously. But DON'T bitch and moan about our 1st Amendment rights.

I use cash whenever practicable.
That said, I have never made a withdrawal greater than $9,500, nor have I ever used cash (currency/specie) to make a purchase greater than $10,000 that was to be entered in the public record.
