Is it really? Read the tweet. It specifically places the context of that photo in late night shows, which are widely understood to be comedic and to use satire and hyperbole to entertain audiences. Posting that photo in that context with a Late Show logo on the image is not what I would call "meant to draw controversy"
don't be obtuse
I immediately understood the context of the tweet, but they chose that screenshot for a reason

what? you're being obtuse for not recognizing why they chose that specific screenshot

do you not understand the definition of "clickbait"?

I don't remember seeing Valerie Jarrett's head on a pike being tweeted by the NYT. How interesting.

You really are being obtuse AF. Most everyone get what's going on here. They understand the context of show, they know NYT was showing a shot of it, etc. It's the hypocrisy and blatant shite stirring that is irritating. Zero chance this happens to Valerie Jarrett all else held equal. Why can't you understand that?

To quote from the movie "The Sting", "If you're getting them mad you know that you're getting to them."

You're being obtuse for separating the screenshot from the context. You already admit you understand the context, but you're reacting to the image as if it were separated from the context. It's a fricking comedy skit. Relax
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this. In my judgment, depicting someone's head on a pike in an explicitly comedic context, where it's clear the person is being inserted into scenes from television shows, should not be controversial. You disagree. Why you disagree is lost on me, but whatever. It's subjective.

If they showed him hanging from a tree, wouldn't that be hilarious!

I just called it clickbait.
I'm going to call out media that tries to present themselves as serious for blatant clickbait.
In no way am I offended.

Right. It shouldn't be. But it is and will be interpreted that way by the vast majority of people. And the NYT knows that. That is why they chose that specific screenshot. It's about clicks.
If they chose a more normal one, say from the Big Bang Theory, would we be discussing this right now?
You know this too, I know you do. For some reason you are just being really disingenuous about this.

I'm not offended at all. I don't know if you knew this or whatever, but I actually don't like Trump and I don't like Miller at all. It's the annoying hypocrisy that bugs me. I think you're just biased.

I just stated a fact. I know you're averse to them at times.

The NY Times clearly showed that the article was about how late night shows are discussing Miller. If you don't want to read an article about that, don't click the link. They didn't disguise the article as something else and bait you in by misleading you. They were actually really upfront about what the article is.
Clickbait is where you entice someone to click by being vague or misleading about the contents of the article.
If they had said, "Liberals wants Miller's head on a pike," and gave no hint that the article was actually about a comedy show, and there was no Late Show logo in the photo, then it would be clickbait.
You're tilting at windmills, Don Quixote.
