Why is a single mother of two driving to Atlantic City (a good hour and 20 minute drive) at 1 am? The story about hiding a birthday cake and dog at a hotel is suspect. More than likely she bought the gun as a straw purchase or she was partying it up in AC.
Well I hope that knowing this young single mother is locked up and her children are in foster care helps you sleep better at night.

Are you one of those cops from the movie Minority Report who can see crimes in the future? Thank God that dangerous criminal will be locked away for 3 years.

Celebrates a young single mother going to jail and her kids taken away because she had the gall to want to defend herself and kids. Another great example of liberal compassion.

well....you certainly have cornered the market on throwing her in jail. after all, anyone traveling in a strange state at 1am with a CC from another state deserves to be jailed.

absolutely, she was out to wreak havoc in AC....

pathetic mmcgrath....is it the fact that she's black and/ or female> why do liberals hate women so much...minority women at that?

I don't have to. She was committing a crime right there. She only had the gun a week and proved herself to be an irresponsible gun owner.

I am sure she was very familiar with New Jersey and didn't find it strange. And yes, when you are in NJ with a loaded gun without a license to carry one you get arrested.

I'm sure you feel the same about all the illegal aliens crossing the border. If there's anything I know about you libs, it's consistency.

This is ridiculous.

What we have is an issue with NJ's gun laws, and I think that is the original point the OP was trying to make. These laws get passed by anti-gunners and ignorant "pro-gunners" because they believe the result will be less crime (by the violent offenders who are usually causing the problems), but the result is that otherwise law-abiding citizens are turned into criminals by exercising their right to self defense by carrying a firearm.

A mother with a previously clean record was arrested because she broke a law that was not intended to send her to jail, but the violent offenders spilling blood on the streets. She has been made a criminal by the law even though she wasn't the one intended to be targeted (assuming good motives by the politicians here), and that's the real travesty here. She's at fault for not knowing the law, but what this really shows is that these gun laws usually wind up hurting the otherwise law-abiding citizens more than the ones who are using firearms to kill others.

Generally, a very good post.

Here is a piece that I have an issue with, however.

I'm not anti-second amendment by any stretch.

The thing is, NJ has had serious violence issues in two particular areas - Newark and Camden - for a very long time. If you're caught carrying a gun in either of those areas, you're effectively arrested; it's unfortunate, but what else is a state supposed to do when gun violence is so rampant for so long...?

To those who think 'more guns' are the solution, just remember, more guns means more people carrying guns - and more people shooting at each other in those two particular areas.

I wouldn't be surprised if this situation blows over and the woman gets no severe penalty.

I would certainly hope that's how this plays out.

so in summary, you don't know if they are working or not.
