The national tv media come to you from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, not Branson, Amarillo, and Provo, and there obviously is some functional significance to that. These are mostly liberal people, and they speak mostly to liberal people, and I can speak only to the instances of the left in the northeast, but they put zero effort into understanding the points of view of others, hence the words "racism" "sexism" "misogynist" "xenophobic" "homophobic" "mansplaining" "fat shaming" etc being so prevalent. These are little more than--ahem--"microaggressions" used to silence one's opposition.

And it fricking backfired.

Obviously I'm guilty of it in my own way as a right-leaner around here (don't roll your eyes; the right is more intellectually diverse than a lot of you give it credit for, and that's a good thing)--and I owe this board an apology. I made fun of every one of you for the Trump support. I wanted a Republican to win, and the nomination of Trump seemed to be the most counterintuitive thing possible in that context. I don't think I've ever been so wrong in my entire life about anything.

You'll be pleased to know that the people you know are devastated are more devastated than you ever could imagine, and I'm even surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. Everytime a liberal friend of mine says "I'm disgusted with this country," I think of all my people back home in Louisiana whom (s)he is insulting, and it pleases me that this person is unhappy, because this person deserves to be unhappy for all the mean deplorable things said about half the country.

They're finding out the hard way that they're just as shitty, offensive, stupid, vile, racist, sexist, misogynist, xenophobic, and bigoted as the rest of us, and damn if I don't have a boner for such comeuppance. I tell them the same thing I told the Vitter Republicans around here: Nominate somebody good, and you won't have to worry about this next time. That message isn't received particularly well on this board, but it's received with a much more open mind here than in the liberal circles in New York.

The elitist left worships their politicians. The deplorable right worships God. While Democratic Presidential candidates usually lose, God always wins. Hence, nobody needed therapy dogs or classes canceled in 2008 or 2012 (there was a meltdown, and it warranted ridicule, but it's nothing like this). I have a lot of genuinely good friends up here who it would seem have just seen their Savior nailed to a cross, and even though they're my friends, it makes me feel good because they genuinely think they're better than me and you, and they can't process the idea that they aren't. Conservative people are ostracized into silence in the general political debate up here by leftists who cannot for the life of them go toe-to-toe in a political discussion aside from the premise that being liberal is correct, and being conservative is incorrect. I'm happy that politics aren't more important to me than they are. A friend asked me the other day why I talk about sports so much; I said, "because nobody up here wants to talk to a conservative about politics--they just want someone to agree with them."

I'll confess, and I beg your pardon for my saying this: I find this board to be collectively narrow-minded when it comes to politics, but your collective mind is to the Mississippi River what the elitist left's is to a titmouse's urethra.

I thought Clinton would be a good President; it was her life's work, and she inevitably would have worked better with Republicans than Obama ever could. With that in mind--and I never considered it until election night because I NEVER thought he would win--I think that President Trump will do a very good job.

Greatest country in the history of the world.

I'm from West Monroe, which is about as conservative as it can get, and I live in New York, which isn't the most liberal city in the country, and from my experience, it's the left way more than it's the right.

Thank God enough Republican voters who thought Trump was not "somebody good" behaved rationally, weighed the pros and cons, and did what was best for the country.

ETA: I should have read your post more carefully. I was taking a little dig at republicans who voted for Edwards. Very good post.

Great post!!!! I finally have an opportunity to agree with you - for the most part.

I take minor exception to one statement.

To be sure, many of the so called deplorable on the right worship God, but you said "The deplorable right worships", which implies a monolithic whole. In reality, not all on the right that worship God belong in that group and there are many in that group that do not worship God.

You think we are narrow minded because we don't want men peeing with grandma and we want immigrants to be legal.

We are sane. That's why we get ridiculed.

None of us wants blacks shipped back to Africa. We want them to have jobs and be responsible Americans so we can share meals with them. We want this for all races.

We don't care if Muslims come here and assimilate. We aren't demanding that they convert. We just don't want them coming here and blowing up buildings and people.

We don't care if gays marry. Forgive us for thinking that abortion is morally wrong.

We don't want large government because government leads to corruption. We are sane but we get called loons and bigots. We just want to protect this great country and keep it great.

Lots of bad shite has happened in the past but slowly and surely things are improving. Women have more opportunity than ever. That's wonderful. A black man was President. Blacks have the same opportunities everyone else do if they bust their arse. Sure, they need a break but I also needed a break to overcome my upbringing.

We are very different in our beliefs in how to get better but I think the goals are very similar. We should focus on those.

for making me upvote you for once.

When one's hubris overtakes one's intelligence, this is what you get.

Good post.

I have the same problem when I try to talk to conservatives up here about politics.

They're a little hard to find though

Well said, balls. That has been my teaching point. They had what should have been an easy win but choked by rigging the primary in favor of an uninspiring crooked, establishment politician. It never made sense to me. They thought they could win by plugging in the Clinton name and running with the first female president thing. Run a better candidate next time.

I hope that's the case for most conservatives, but I see some really awful things said about Muslims on this forum, and elsewhere. Trump was promising to ban Muslims from immigrating here (which he backed off from later, thankfully). That promise was met with loud cheering from his supporters.

That's why people are skeptical.

I think a lot of conservatives do still care. But Obergefell v. Hodges pretty much neutralized this issue so whatever.

The abortion thing I understand.

Yep, the MSM is a clear and present danger, and their collusion with every piece they put out with the Democratic party's approval should be investigated to the extreme. Ethically the are challenged, and was Exposed as a Superpact of the Democratic party, and should have the FEC stopping 2 feet up their arse right now, if all things were fair....They are the arm of Evil, the surrogates of Soros's money, and I'm glad their evil plan was exposed, and even more, they got defeated(for now)...

Didn't you admit to living in a bubble? Watch this (new topic posted)

Right, you don't even want to accept what we tell you.

You are on a Conservative dominated board. Of course you are going to get knee jerk reaction posts to get reactions. You know how this works.

Ask folks individually and most will tell you exactly what I posted on those subjects. All my friends hold the same positions for the most part.

None of us want A or B persecuted. We do want immigration from dangerous Muslim countries to be tightly controlled. It's just common sense.

Trump did what he had to do to get elected.

I'm hopeful that by starting with these really high bars he's left room for negotiation with the Dems.

Go from banning Muslims to the same policy basically as Obama seems like a win for Ds and Rs.

I think the give from the Dems is just labeling certain countries more prone to extremists. It would be nice to tell the truth about that region for once.

It's been proven over and over again that the smug-liberal thinking does not seek out opinions of those that disagree with them. They simply want to talk in an echo chamber.

You're right. Intentionally broad brush to highlight what I see as an undeniable trend.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. My view is far more nuanced and less simple than this, but you won't give it so much credit. Still, at least you can parrot back to me a warped, simple version of it--the left up here won't even give me that much respect.

Wouldn't have been a problem if you knew me down south. I hope you enjoy better experiences in the future.
