Funny but I think you know it's lazy thinking. Private prisons are a good example. Also, the government is "we the people", so I don't really agree that taxpayers are obviously distinct "the government".

He's right though. The middleman of government has all of these costs it adds on to the construction of roads in the collection, appropriation, and supervision process. That's why, even though we like public goods, small governments are favorable because we get more bang for the buck on things we actually want.

My 3rd grader stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy this year.

Maybe this is the year we can all stop pretending to believe libertarianism will ever happen.

I'm not sure that roads are the place to start on this.

Also, it shows a staggering lack of awareness of the rest of that preamble. The preamble specifically shows that the people are distinct from the government. As Lincoln discussed it at Gettysburg, "government of the people, by the people, for the people . . . ."

How do taxpayers directly pay construction companies without involving the government?

People act like private prisons are the juries and judges that sentence criminals. If the argument is that there are too many crimes because private prisons lobby, fine. That still isn't a good argument, but it at least makes more sense.

In Louisiana's case, the government fails to even maintain the facade of responsible government. The corruption and stupidity would be almost excusable if Louisiana had decent infrastructure.

Who approves the bids and who bills the tax payers so the private construction company can get paid? Is a delinquent account suspended from driving on all roads?

Such a silly premise.
