Moderate Dems, what do you think about the constant riot/protests?

I'm curious; I am still a registered Dem, although I did vote Trump this past election. I wasn't inspired by any of Clinton's stated goals (and actively didn't want some), and the Dem Convention honestly antagonized the heck out of me.

I know there had to be a number of people who accepted a lot of the rhetoric as "just politics", and expected things to be fairly normal after the election (for either side), no matter what the outcome. I know a lot of folks probably consider the opposition in Congress to various appointments etc to also just be "politics", a chance for the congressmen to "make a stand and be heard" before the government gets down to running again.

But I can't see how anyone mainstream/middle-of-the-road can sit back and just accept these mounting waves of protests and riots. That's outside the comfort zone, the bounds of accepted society, far more than the current president increasing the scrutiny of immigrants/refugees from a part of the world that proclaims to be openly hostile towards us (not to the conservatives or the Republicans, but to America and Western principles in concept). We've had some terrorism here, and we've watched Europe convulse under the weight of these same people... I'm actually grateful that our government is trying to get ahead of this before it becomes our problem too.

I absolutely can't believe the Milo/UC Berkeley thing last night; less than 2 years ago, I would have argued that the "liberal establishment" at Berkeley would have taken great pride in allowing an opposing vocie to speak, and have pronounced that their student body was fully capable of deconstructing the message being expressed. Something along the lines of "we value freedom of speech at it's core, and we don't need to resort to violence to oppose it, we have the intelligence to make informed decisions, unlike (insert right-wing movement of your choice here)."

I just think there has to be others on the same path as I am, maybe in a different place but still moving the same way: you start out laughing that the Right is just exaggerating, but as things go and you expect reasonable responses from the Democrats, you keep seeing Left extremism rising instead. And say, you know what, Trump might be a crazy choice, but he's right at his core message- America IS declining, and we need to focus on getting the ship righted instead of continuing on this path. Prioritize America (us, the actual citizens) first, for awhile. It's fine to be noble and compassionate to others, but not at the expense of our own.

I'm American before I am Democrat or Republican. I freely admit that our society isn't perfect, but believe it's a damn sight better than others. I work for what I get, I don't want terrorism or riots in my streets, and I don't want any vestiges of Marxism infiltrating my society.

The Dems have betrayed their old constituency, and needs to be purged before it's too late.

Who else is out there? Have to be a few

Good job, Scoob, but there is no way some Dem addresses your post with a long, thoughtful commentary. That's not their game. They can't persuade people in that manner. Riot, agitation, intimidation and creating chaos are their methods.

This is War. Their objective is to make Trump's America completely ungovernable due to chaos and malfunction. This is not me saying this -- this is what their signs say. THIS is what John Kerry meant when he made the off-handed comment that Trump might last "two years".

Keep voting Democrat, America!

We are almost there !

Protests are intended to make people uncomfortable. I am fine with protests, even ones I disagree with.

Riots have no place in a civil society.

So the establishment creates the problem and you welcome the government to come in and save you. Congratulations on falling for the oldest trick in the book.

Consider yourself part of the problem.

If Trump has to disavow every wanna be white supremacist then Dem leaders should be made to disavow these nutcases that are just out there destroying things.

NO prominent Democrat will so much as encourage cessation of violent destruction of property. Obama has never and will never call for "calm". The Democrat Party is FULLY on board with this and are actually providing logistical support for these armies of rioters.

Read all the posts in response and you'll see why nearly any Democrat wouldn't waste their time replying.

Dems lose me with gender identity issues and open borders to all refugees.

Reps lose me at Jesus and abortion.

The protests lose me at riots.

The protests are good in that there needs to be a direction. That direction needs representation. Politics needs balance. An all GOP government scares me as does an all Left. The left is so fricked up right now.

Each side has over reach and it starts in their need to pander.

As with most labeling vernacular on this board, I'm perplexed by the labeling/terminology but I think I'm probably that and I'm right there with you.

Why would Democrats shy away from the thoughtful exchange of ideas? Because all they know how to do is to make personal insults, and troll -- that's it. That's their entire repertoire. It's indisputable.

Oh really. Please tell us more of what we like since you're on top of things. Not one Democrat I know is for the protests. That is the part of the Democratic Party that needs to go. I'm not gonna say that every Republican is a boot licking racist redneck. No, that's the part of that party that needs to go. Most of this country is centralized but the fringes on the left and the right are the ones causing the chaos and receiving the most attention.
