If we are going to water down history just to appease modern PC culture or to make a political statement
This isn't about PC or watering down history, it's about the people who live in a city are free to name the parks whatever the hell they want.
There is no possible way that anyone can fairly be judged by what society considers acceptable hundreds of years after they are dead.
Of course there can, if people judge it negatively and want to change it, they are free to.
Those who choose not to remember the past are free to repeat it.
But something tells me that the citizens of Memphis will not be forgetting the lessopns of the Civil war any time soon.
And whites in Memphis have very good reason to leave town.
I never said they didn't, but once they leave, they shouldn't have any say over what the remaining - or new residents - of Memphis decide to name their parks.
The French lost a lot of beautiful memorials to monarchs (some that had done much to advance the French culture) after the French Revolution. That's kind of what happens to the losers, their shite gets torn down and new shite gets put up.
