From the AP:
quote:

Soon after she was sworn in, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell tapped Britt to be one of the few advisers who sit in on weekly leadership meetings. At the time, she said she believed she brought a critical perspective that was often missing in Washington, not only because of her age but also as the only Republican senator who is a mother of school-age children. Announcing last week that Britt would give the party response, McConnell called Britt “an unapologetic optimist” and said she “wasted no time in becoming a leading voice.”

Bonus:
quote:

In the hours after the death of California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, she exchanged texts with Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, the chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and asked if she could sit with the other women senators as they paid tribute to Feinstein on the Senate floor that morning.

quote:

Maine Sen. Susan Collins, the top Republican on the Appropriations panel, said that she’s thrilled to have Britt representing the party. “She is a refreshing breath of fresh air and brings energy and a different perspective to our caucus, which I think is really important,” Collins said.

quote:

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat who leads the Appropriations Committee’s homeland security subcommittee with Britt, says, “She’s an all-star and Republicans know it.” Murphy, who has participated in bipartisan negotiations on several issues, said he’s hopeful that Britt is “going to end up being one of the people that ends up trying to help make the Senate a place that works.”

quote:

Britt has so far preferred to operate more on the inside, forming relationships with colleagues behind the scenes and waiting to make her first speech on the Senate floor.

quote:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), who announced this week he would be stepping down from his leadership role at the end of the year, has identified a GOP weakness among suburban woman and independents. Two of McConnell’s aides attended football games with Britt and she joined his leadership team as an adviser last year, as they may be eyeing her to be a future GOP leader.

Yeah, just because she delivers a cringe-worthy speech doesn't necessarily mean she's a bad senator.

But somebody should have told her to tone down that kindergarten teacher stuff

I can't imagine that somebody watched her practice sessions and said "yeah, that sounds good, do it just like that"

FWIW, I belong to a conservative professional online discussion group and one of the physicians there is from Britt's hometown and has known her since she was a child. Apparently, the delivery was "just her" and not some put-on.

Being the only female senator with school age children is alarming in and of itself

In studies of rhetorical styles this is called 'baby girl voice' and there is a disturbing correlation. A high percentage of older women who still talk like this also experienced sexual molestation when they were children.
Don't know if that applies to her but it's a significant link.

The Turtle picking such a junior senator along with all the other red flags (chamber of commerce, Shelby clone, etc) tells you or anyone paying attention that she is part of the establishment, which means she is NOT a good senator...

Yeah, it’s actually kind of shocking that this creepily driven southern sorority girl SGA type seems foreign to so many on this board.

It’s hard not stumble across her on any SEC campus.

I think she will be fine and we do need to start preparing the next generation of congressional leaders. She was just overcoached and overly prepared. If she learns to emphasize sincerity while keeping the warmth she may just be a rock star.

I do not know it, lol. I follow politics a moderate amount. It’s probably more than the average person. Of course I have heard her name before, but what makes her so special?

Yes, it was. And it can be corrected with training but at her age that's gonna be hard.

She’s very likable, but last night she reminded me of Ms Lippy. Billy Madison’s first grade teacher

Trumps live stream with comments>>> a big gay rebuttal after.

Jindal looked like a clown when he tried it and so did Kennedy from the other side.

Honestly the state of the union should go away
