Please include a preview of the article next time.
The last line reads
From this initial story, I don't see the point of putting him through a trial. The couple that committed burglary should have known the potential consequences of their actions; one paid a heavy price. Whether she was pregnant or not is irrelevant. Burglars don't deserve sympathy. These especially don't deserve sympathy if they broke into this old man's house 3 times. Life is a heavy price to pay; a 28 year old pregnant woman should know better than to engage in stressful and dangerous activities like burglary. She had a lot to potentially lose, and she did.

Prosecutors will have to determine whether chasing after the suspects and firing on them outside the home goes beyond self-defense, McDonnell said.

Was it right or wrong to shoot her?

How bad was he beaten by the burglars? Article really doesn't say. Sounds like it may have been more a case of revenge than self-defense. It's hard to condemn the homeowner for shooting burglars who beat him, but it does sound like they were running away. Tough call, need more details.

The dudes like 70 and he doesn't give a shite.

I can't say I blame him. They robbed and they beat him. Bitch got what she deserved. What kind of sick fricks beat an 80 year old?
It's in California, so the old guy will definitely be prosecuted. Hope is found not guilty.

Probably Israel's fault, was she a Palestinian?
Posted on 7/24/14 at 9:24 pm to Vols&Shaft83
Only if she called herself a Palestinian.

The article said his collarbone was broken so that sounds like they beat him up pretty good.

If it was self defense, he had the right to do it, and if she really was pregnant, the baby's death is the fault of the burglars.
If it was revenge, he is in the wrong even if she lied about being pregnant.
Whether it was legitimately self defense isn't an easy call. It appears that they targeted him repeatedly and escalated to physical violence. He could have reasonably believed that they were coming back ASAP to finish him off, and he can't be expected to be thinking in a fully rational manner in that situation. I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt (as opposed to the guy in Minnesota who held the burglars captive and taunted them before killing them.)

This. If it was a pattern and escalating, he had ever reason to fear for his life. Especially after pulling a gun. They'd most certainly beat him to death the next go around.

I would diagnose him with Alzheimer's and declare him incompetent to stand trial. frick'em.

Why would a pregnant woman commit burglary?

Hell, the kid would have grown up to be a thug anyway.

Precisely. In Tigerlaff personal ethos world, she got what she deserved. In a court of law, he is definitely a ....
ETA: wow, read the story. Murder. Maybe even 1st degree if the DA can make the case for intent to kill or harm the other guy. Old man probably deserves death.

He shot her once and she dropped to the ground, then walked up to her, heard her beg for her life claiming to be pregnant, and finished her off.
You would think that being shot once would be enough to "send a message they would remember for the rest of their lives," which is what the old man claimed he was trying to do.
So no, executing an unarmed woman after she's down to "send a message" definitely is wrong.
The first shot... arguable, I wouldn't press charges if it were my call.
The kill shot? Not arguable at all.
