How is this possible? I thought tort reform was the only way auto insurance rates would ever go down....

Rates will decrease an additional 2.6%, bringing the combined impact of reductions to 10.4%.

well it's not hard when your rates are about 30% higher than the country average

but does a newly licensed child driver living under the roof have to have their own insurance by law?

Single parent. One child. Two vehicles insured under the parents name.

Geico will can give a clear answer.

Using 1 company that is 40% higher than the other companies in this State as evidence to support your flawed position is definitely the way to win. Keep it up!

When I moved from Metro ATL to Baton Rouge in 2013, my State Farm auto rates went down 15%.

they're generally cheaper if you have a good driving record and good credit. If you have a bad driving record then State Farm's rates will be really high. They protect their "low risk" customers much more than other companies.

They can afford to. They've been so outrageously high for so long.

Not the case in TN. I have Farm Bureau, but I check other companies each year. With no claims in 10 years, Farm Bureau is easily the best for the same coverage. State Farm is consistently the highest, even when I get quotes bundling home insurance, still higher than the others without a bundle.

SF Lobbyists to SF Execs:

You have two options.

1) Cut rates by a few peanuts and hope that's enough to calm people down.

2) Do nothing, continue to piss off people, and eventually you will get slapped with new regulation and more competition in the market.

As an insurance agent, I always love seeing this type of “theatrics”. The DOI in LA is horse manure and is in thick with many of the insurance executives of each company, especially State Farm. It’s funny how much the DOI likes to hang their hat on these things during an election year.

I’m going on record that there will be very few actual State Farm customers that receive rate decreases. These types of “decreases” are typically done outside of your net premium going down. It honestly is terrible for State Farm customers that read this, expect a 3-5% rate decrease, open up their new policy only to see its gone up. Bad expectations are just that... bad.

Mom's auto premium literally doubled when she registered her SUV in LA from AR last month. State Farm both places. From $479 to $958 every 6 months.

Every now and then I’d get a letter in the mail from State Farm. They’d want to give me a quote on car insurance. So I’d call and get a quote and it would be astronomically high. Waste of time. I don’t bother anymore. Their quotes were so much higher than what I pay with Geico that it seems to me State Farm doesn’t really want to do business here in Louisiana, so why they waste my time and theirs I don’t know. Even if they cut their rates 10% it wouldn’t come close to satisfying me. frick State Farm.

It's a law theybhave to pay a certain % of premiums in claims.

If not. Rates must be adjusted down.
