In my lifetime La. has risen and fallen according to world events, the national economy and especially the situation in the oil patch.

Now we see good activity in the oil patch, but nationally the economy isn't so hot; and I do not think La. is clicking on all cylinders right now.

I read about BR getting country music festivals, the Miss USA pageant, LSU Football, and the state getting Super Bowls, the Saints, the Hornets/Pelicans, and all this other feel good stuff (like Hollywood); but we only do better as a state when the country and the oil patch prosper.

I can't see where hardly any of these things really make any noticeable difference to every day citizens; yet the politicians grab the microphones to tell us these are all difference makers and the state/city is going to really get a lot out of all this.

I just travelled to Texas for the Memorial Day weekend and I was struck by all the construction and growth there.

Does Texas buy business like we do? Does Texas tax income like we do? Does Texas hit the lower class wage earners hard with sales taxes like we do?

No Texas taxes wealth (property) and leaves income alone. I'm not an economist, but why is Texas booming and not La.? Maybe we should mimic their system?

I'm open, but geez; they have poor people, immigration issues, and yet as a whole they are prospering when few are.

I quickly opened all of those links, and it's nothing I haven't seen before.

Certainly Jindal gets high marks for making La. more business friendly. He has done extremely well in that area.

But here's what you posted:

so what did Jindal do to build Louisianas economy? because its at its highest point in generations.

What makes you think our state economy is at its highest point in generations? Certainly total GDP is, but every state could say that. What economic statistics make you think the state economy is doing so well?

Now I don't disagree that much of what Jindal has done to make the state more business friendly isn't going to pay off in the future; but that hasn't happened yet IMHO.

All of those links are to LED stuff and magazines of economic development industry bureaucrats. You really do think a magazine call "Area Development" measures economic growth do you? They measure state giveaways and pay to economic development directors and that is about all.

Our economy is good but it's not because of digital media credits or film tax credits or chicken plants--all Jindal can claim. It's good because the petro chemical industry and the oil industry are booming. They are booming because the dollar is weak. It is just like the seventies.
