quote:What is Hollywood's investment in Louisiana? How much property. plant and equipment has Hollywood invested in Louisiana? The 14,000 jobs attributable to the film industry are transient jobs that are dependent on one time projects. When the project is completed the job gone.
The sky is the limit, Hollywood loves Louisiana.
If these credits are such a great deal for Louisiana, then why doesn't Louisiana provide those tax credits to other industries that have to build plants in Louisiana like automobile manufacturing? Once they are here they have sunk costs to prevent them from leaving? Wouldn't that be a better use of the tax credits? Also, manufacturers' income would be sourced to Louisiana. They would have to use the credits themselves instead of selling them to the highest bidder.

What is crazy is that this is not a bigger issue.
I wonder why it is that we never hear Rush or Hannity or Maddow or any of the large audience talking heads complaining about the marriage of government and media with these subsidies??
Could it be their networks are making too much money on them to criticize them?
Don't you think a story about government giving ABC tens of millions of dollars to finance productions would be an attention grabber? Rush could go on about that for hours. Rachel one would think would be ballistic about payments to Fox.
How pathetic is it that for that last few years state politicians have whined and moaned, editors have screamed and hollered about cuts in this state program and that state program and none have suggested a cut in film tax subsidies to avoid the cuts. In not a single year of the Jindal administration have budget cuts exceeded the film tax credit cost.
There exists a quiet quid pro quo between both parties and the media about this. The only critics in the press are small independent operators and think tanks like the La Budget Project and Cato.
Isn't interesting the La Auditor report this year gets hardly a mention and then only in terms of the ABC article in the OP quoting the profiteer John Goodman on the wonders of raping LA taxpayers for the benefit of filmmakers.
The legislature and the governor are bought and sold on this issue. Cowards all.
They are all greasy slugs.

Did you not read how he is going to be a guest on their season premier?? You don't think that is all about running for national office??? Do you think he would dare attack film tax credits and risk that national exposure??
He is sleazy.

probably not since the film industry is spending nearly a billion dollars in his state

How much increased spending would occur if the state gave the money back to the tax payer instead? Keep in mind that the LA film tax subsidies could almost completely pay to eliminate corporate income taxes all-together. That's every industry, not just Hollywood.

They spent over $800,000,000.00 and got back 251 million in return. Roughly 30 per cent.
In the meanwhile it cost our treasury over 200 million dollars.
Let's hope they don't spend 3 billion dollars here because if they do we have to give up 900 million dollars in taxes to pay them for their efforts.
Paying people to spend money in La. isn't the way to build an economy.

That is the simplest and most accurate rebut yet.
Would you pay a tourist 30% of their hotel bill, gas bill, food bill and plane ticket to come here??
That is the correct rebuttal to the stupid logic these proponents use.

it must've been something else Jindal did to build Louisianas economy.

my wife's family owns a resort in Mexico. they give discounts to nearly every tourist because they're competing with a ton of other resorts. They're making money hand over fist.

You think politicians build economies through big government wealth transfer programs.
With such a lizard brained populace, it's no wonder they keep doing it.

so what did Jindal do to build Louisianas economy? because its at its highest point in generations.

it was in reference to the 30% for tourists to come to Louisiana. pay attention

I'm paying attention, but you're so hellbent on supporting this government program that you are typing incoherent thoughts.
Do you think the government should reimburse tourists for 30% of all expenditures while they are in Louisiana? Yes, or no answer please.

How did you determine that?

Which facts?
Unemployment?
Increase in GDP?
Exactly what. I'm not arguing the opposite, I just want you to tell us why you believe our economic growth is the best in generations.

Only the most gullible buy into this crap about politicians building economies---particularly at the state level.
