Zach, I want to tell you why I'm taking action on immigration.

There's no disagreement in Washington that our system is badly broken. That's why a bipartisan majority in the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform. That was more than 500 days ago, but we're still waiting for the House to hold a vote.

Every day we delay, our country and our economy suffer. Millions of families go on living in the shadows, without a chance to pay their taxes or do what's necessary to get on the right side of the law.

So, just like every president in the last 70 years -- Republican and Democrat -- I'm taking steps in my power to help fix this broken immigration system.

If you agree that we can't wait any longer for meaningful action on immigration, join Americans across the country, including supporters of OFA, who are standing up to fight for reform.

Some voices in this debate want to make this issue about me, so I want to be clear about this:

The actions I'm taking today are no substitute for comprehensive reform. Only Congress can finish the job.

But I'm not just going to wait for that day to come. The American people expect solutions from the people they send to Washington. Today, I'm doing what I can to take common-sense steps forward.

Add your name if you're ready to fight for reform:

Thank you,

Barack Obama

I really don't care.

They have little to zero desire to do either of these.

I never get emails from the President.

I don't like him, but I'm a bit jealous that he doesn't email me.

You need to sign up with OFA. I did years ago.

Emails about pills that make your penis grow or lose 30 pounds in one month are more believable than his bullshite.

True.

No penis here, but even I know that those emails are likely bullshite.

I'm still curious as to understand why exactly our immigration system is broken...is it the after the fact that so many illegal immigrants are here?

IMO that doesn't mean the system is broken. The enforcement of the system is broken.

I understand I might be a little naïve, but I am sincerely trying to understand what exactly is broken.

Hmm....But he's been President 6 years, and just got his arse handed to him by the voters. He waited till he needed the controversy to distract....and that's the truth!!

Same thing with health care. Our system was broken because the uninsured had to go to the E.R. Obama fixed it.

I taught constitutional law for ten years. I take the constitution very seriously. The biggest problem that we're facing right now has to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all, and that's what I intend to reverse when I'm president of the United States of America.

I heard a commenter this morning who said that they do not make enough money to pay any taxes and they will be eligible for the earned income tax credit.

This is true. EITC is welfare. They'll be eligible for lots of other welfare. That's the whole point.

According to this article in the Washington Post, there is nothing unusual about this. LINK Just business as usual in Congress.
