Good. The bastard should die in prison. Shooting someone over "texting during the previews." And the s.o.b. tried to lie about it and use the excuse that he "feared for his life." Good thing there was enough video evidence to prove he was lying through his teeth.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish with this. The guy tried a bullshite defense and it fell apart under scrutiny. Did I miss something?

Good. The "stand your ground" defense, or any law for that matter, has a specific purpose; it does a disservice to the intended purpose, on all sides, if it's misused..

This makes me happy.

The video proves his testimony is false.

Shooting anyone for texting during previews is so retarded it is an insult to retarded people by calling it retarded.

He gone.

How is a Texas ATM economist an expert on determining how homicides have increased since SYG was enacted?

This case obviously wasn't a stand your ground case and the defendant was caught lying about key portions of his defense. He should stand trial.

Put simply, he's a stubborn old man who thought that just because he was a cop that he could get away with shooting people that he thought were annoying as shite when there was no threat to his life.

Yes he was retired from the police department. It's scary to think this moron was ever in law enforcement; there's no telling how many people he illegally harassed or beat up behind closed doors.

Why do I have be "trying to accomplish" something? But it's obviously an example of the darker effects of the "stand your ground" law. It makes people brave and aggressive when they know they might be able to get off by simply saying "they were scared for their life." The only reason this moron didn't is that there was video evidence proving his lies. And now the conservative whackos in the Florida legislature are going to make it easier for idiots like this retired cop to shoot people and get away with it.

What a reach. The law is not applicable to the case...everyone agrees....and you still want to bitch about the law? Brilliant.

Thankfully, there was video evidence in this instance proving the shooter was lying. But had there been no video evidence, the s.o.b. likely would have gotten off, since the way the law is written, the shooter gets the benefit of the doubt. It's too easy with the "stand your ground" law to shoot someone and claim the defense of "fearing for your life." And now the Florida legislature is planning on making it easier to get away with shooting someone under the "stand your ground" law:

"Now, Florida lawmakers are trying to take the law a step further, by requiring prosecutors to prove that a defendant wasn't acting in self-defense. If the proposed expansion passes, Greg reports, it could make it easier for defendants such as Reeves to be granted immunity from prosecution."

Appeal it to the Supreme Court

Once the lib judges take away stand your ground, next they'll take away the guns altogether

Only because there was (fortunately) video evidence proving him to be a liar. In a lot of cases, there is no video evidence, and liars like this retired cop can make up a story and get away with killing someone out of anger instead of "fear for their lives." And now, the Florida legislature is trying to make it even easier to get away with shooting someone for insufficient reason:

"Now, Florida lawmakers are trying to take the law a step further, by requiring prosecutors to prove that a defendant wasn't acting in self-defense. If the proposed expansion passes, Greg reports, it could make it easier for defendants such as Reeves to be granted immunity from prosecution."

Lots of speculation there. Seems like a good reason to eliminate a law.
