Obama knew he would not be confirmed but got all he could out of it by bringing it up knowing the senate would not bring it for vote. Therefore making the republican senate look bad which he accomplished. Now they are using it again..

Who changed the rule on Senate confirmation on judges? It used to be 60 and now it’s 50 (cloture anyway). McConnel warned the Democrats that would regret making those changes when the republicans gained power but the dims did it anyway. Their chickens have come home to roost.

Funny how the MSM never brings that up when talking about Amy getting “pushed through.”

Wrong, he was railroaded by the Republicans. Its funny how narratives change based on who's in the office. The republican party is just full of hypocrites.

You should cry about the rules rather than play by them.

Supreme Court justices are nominated by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate... Unfortunately for Merrick, Obama failed to seek the advice of the Senate

This is the one and only answer. If Obama wanted another SCT appointment in 2016, he should have nominated someone the Senate would confirm. Advice and consent is just as much a part of the process as the nomination.

They threw a guy out there that had no chance of being elected and he was made a pawn by the Democrats.

I mean yeah......Garland should have known that he didn't have the votes so why put yourself out there? I guess he can say he was nominated but its kind of a bad look i/m/o.

The Republicans knew they had the votes. If they didn't no way ACB gets confirmed. None. Nada.

His nomination was a study in leverage. And the key to leverage is this: what good is it if you don’t use it?

You are incorrect.

Had the Republicans held hearings, he would have been favorably voted out of committee and would have been confirmed?

Why?

Because the GOP was not ideological as to SCOTUS nominees (see Ginsburg, Breyer, Kagan and Sotomayor).

Dems are. Which is why every single one of them will be voting against the most intelligent and qualified SCOTUS nominee since Scalia.

Harry Reid led the screw job.

McConnell begged him. “Please don’t break the rules of the Senate to change the rules of the Senate. If you do you will come to regret it. And you may regret it sooner than you think”.

All of this divisiveness is due to the grifter actions that are inherent in the democrat party.

Horse shite! If we'd have had a Dem. President and a Dem. Senate, we'd be in the exact same place after RBG died.

Doesn't matter the about the Party, if you have the Presidency and the Senate then you get to fill the SCOTUS seat regardless of how close we are to an election.

Whoever controls the Senate gets the say.
Republicans didn't want an Obama nominee.
Perfectly within their legal responsibility.
You are just butthurt because Dems didn't get their way.

Nothing to do with a narrative. I would expect Dems to do the same thing if the tables were turned.

Yeah, none of the Dems ever talk about this little gem.
