By Obama. They threw a guy out there that had no chance of being elected and he was made a pawn by the Democrats.
Betcha thought I was going to say something else...

It's true. He never had a chance of being confirmed.

Wrong, he was railroaded by the Republicans. Its funny how narratives change based on who's in the office. The republican party is just full of hypocrites.

Supreme Court justices are nominated by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate... Unfortunately for Merrick, Obama failed to seek the advice of the Senate

It was a political gamble to make the Republicans pay for opposing a "moderate" judge. It was also to allay fears of Clinton appointing another Ginsburg. He lost.

Obama was a lame duck. Different situation. And yes, Obama hung him out to dry.

I do feel bad for him. Obama knew what was going to happen with the Democrats not having control of the Senate and put him up anyway for political posturing for Hillary's campaign. Pretty unfair to put him through that for almost a year

Yep.

He never had the votes to be confirmed. It’s just a dead horse the Dems like to beat.

Do you think if the senate was democratic controlled today that they would approve ACB?

Bonkers is a very apt screen name for you

Sure, he was railroaded, which is exactly what Democrats have tried to do with now 3 Trump appointees. The big difference is the Republicans have the power to get their people in regardless. The Democrats didn't. Yes, it's one big political game, but it's one that the Democrats can't win. They know it, so they, instead, scream hypocrites when they would do the same exact thing were the roles reversed. They just don't like the rules when they don't provide them their desired results, and rules mind you that they implemented.

Democrats throw massive fits over the smallest things they perceive to be a loss, yet they just sort of let this go by with barely a whimper. That seems weird if any of them thought it was such an awful "railroading."
In other words, Obama and the rest of the democrats knew exactly what was going on (it would have never been Garland if they didn't), and were all but okay with it, knowing Hillary would appoint who they really wanted in a few months.

Railroaded how, exactly? Surely you know the difference between a nomination and a confirmation. A President doesn't just get to appoint a judge to the SCOTUS. Republicans could have done the whole dog and pony show with the hearings, and guess what..
Garland would have still be denied a seat on the bench.

bingo, which is why I do actually feel bad for Judge Garland. He was nothing more than a tool for them.

I've been wondering if he realized he was a pawn. I didn't like Obama's politics, but nominating Garland was very smart and a good hedge...either the republicans confirmed him, trading a solid conservative seat for someone center-left, or faced the potential for someone much further to the left with Hillary's inevitable election. If the republicans do not confirm, they catch heat. Win either way for Obama's team.
BTW, Happy Birthday Hillary Rodham Clinton!!

By that argument, the Dems are hypocrites too.
