Any legitimate criticisms of Obama/Democrats/etc. on the Daily Show has to be countered with a discussion of George Bush and/or Fox News in order to keep the audience happy. The silence coupled with nervous uncomfortable laughter during segments ripping Democrats, rare though they are, is telling.
Stewart is catering to his audience like any good capitalist. He gives them what they want. And what they want is to laugh at and insult people on the right, not the left.

John Stewart is seldom funny, and even more seldom right about anything. This quip was just another excuse to blame Bush.

I watch The Daily Show pretty regularly. He rpis both sides, but definitely rips the right a lot more. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say about 80-20. And most of his ripping of the right is more directed at the Fox News anchors.
He ripped Obama 2 or 3 straight nights over his "if you like your insurance..." quote when people started getting cancellation letters.

Stewart has been dead to me ever since you went on FOX Sunday and told Chris Wallace that FOX News was the only biased network. When Wallace asked him if the other networks had a similar bias from the left-wing perspective, Stewart said something like, "Absolutely not. I don't see any bias there. They're only guilty of sensationalizing the news for ratings purposes."

And don't even get me started on his worn-out excuse of "I'm only a comedian" every time somebody criticizes him. He knows exactly what he's using that show to do.

Usually a really thorough take down of anything related to Obama is followed by a montage of Fox News anchors saying mean stuff. It's like he can't handle saying anything negative about dear leader or Harry Reid or basically any democrat without having to remind himself that he hates the other side more.
