The rest of the audience seemed to understand that this was not a “hits” concert from a kid with three albums and two chart singles. They certainly knew that the show would include some commentary, because that is who Melkencamp is and has always been. They did not care.
They booed the heckler and wanted the show that they paid to see, complete with commentary, film clips and poetry readings.
Melkencamp should have tosssd the heckler and given it to them.

Well, John's life is now wrecked. Maybe he can write a song reflecting that and save something to make life worth living. He is very talented, so he may as well go all in for the Fascist State.

I agree. It seemed to me most of the audience was mad at the heckler but like all fragile minded leftists, Mellencamp was a complete prick about it. He attempted to dox and shame one person in the audience and then ripped everyone off by leaving the stage early.
They couldn't pay me to see this old worn out windbag. His songs have always been shite and hearing them performed live by this crusty old bastard makes them much worse.

Without seeing video, we’re all just going on secondhand information. Have been to many concerts, where the artist will get up there and just chat with the audience. Should never be a big deal, but for some reason it is with JCM.
Not sure what was going on before the video. Maybe the guy was having a bad night, but I can’t understand why somebody who would go to a JCM concert wouldn’t like to just chill & hear the guy speak. Unless he was introducing politics…

Whether Mr. Mellencamp was talking politics or telling some anecdote about his old Granny's panties, you would think he would have thicker skin than that. One dude pissed him off so he punished the rest of his ticket-buying fans by bitching up and walking offstage. Completely unprofessional and childish. But he's always had the reputation of being an insufferable prick.

I'm skeptical as to whether the 2300 who attended (not as intimate as you imply) were aware of this, obviously the heckler wasn't. Commentary, political or otherwise, is not what most concert goers want when attending a show.
