No. I think LSU should be spun off private and the state subsidies it receives now should be vouchered out to students.

Jindal can't carry Mike Foster's jock strap when it comes to running a lean state government. Any true, independent thinking fiscal conservative can not deny this. I didn't like Stelley but other than that Foster ran a good government. (You do recall that Jindal opposed reversing Stelley and favored legislative pay raises in his first year until the political pressure forced him to change his positions?)

'Them' means there are several. And yet, you cannot name ONE. How sad for you.

I have no idea what that means. Want to explain?

It is not as far fetched as it sounds.

Mark Sanford suggested to the University of South Carolina that they should be private when they were whining about cuts. They are not private but receive only 16% of their cost of operating from the State after he gave them more autonomy.

At least I am willing to keep the spending up and let LSU compete for the vouchers. If we did this system wide it would take the politics out of which schools should closed and which should be open. We would have much better schools too.

I.B. and Bob:

Wind. You're pissing in it.

You should not point out that the Jindal Administration tried to kill the repeal of the Stelly income tax, only to then run radio ads after the fact declaring HE gave the tax break. You should not point out that more money goes to NGOs than in previous administrations, despite his campaigning against such vote-buying appropriations. You should not point out that despite his campaigning against the good ole boy network, he endorsed John Alario for Senate President. You should not point out that until this summer, despite encouragement from Vitter and others, he had been completely silent on the legacy lawsuit issue against oil and gas companies, mostly because of the loads of money and fundraisers thrown his way by big trial lawyers, like Carmouche.

Nope. If you criticize Jindal or call him a hypocrite, you are either a liberal, whiny teacher/state employee, or...I guess...Moon Griffon.

Hey, i'm a conservative and i voted to reelect him. I'm merely calling it as i see it. He has been much better for the state than most of his predecessors (mike foster was awesome, though), but he has flaws. I was pointing out those massive flaws in his resume. I understand that when it comes to budgets, he's handicapped by the state constitution, but he never even made an attempt at amending that constitution. He has been great for the state economically (how much can truly be attributed to him specifically is debatable), but he has left me wanting in many other categories respectfully.

However, that does not mean that i wouldn't vote for him again given the choices in those elections.

I call bullshite.

The more accurate claim would be that even though he campaigned against vote-buying appropriations, he still uses them. I am positive less money has gone to NGOs under Jindal than Blanco and Foster. There are none in the operating budget while some still exist in the capital budget, they face a lot more restrictions and transparency than they used to as part of capital outlay reform.

Blanco used to have a damned slush-fund that allowed money to go to NGOs without even a specific line-item appropriation for God's sake.

Anyone that can't see that the "pork" situation is 100 times better; or dismisses the improvement because it isn't 100% fixed; isn't living in the real world.

You should see the amount of Priority 1 and Priority 2 dollars going to the Jefferson Parish Arts building fiasco alone since 2008.

@IB- those are requests. Find them in the operating budget...you can't.

@ragincajun- agreed, that is a cluster. But that started before Jindal. I guess he didn't stop it. Yeah, that's a mark against him (and it's rolled up in your complaint about him going with Alario).

But the truth is, he could have fought a pointless war against Alario and become Roemer 2.0; but he accepted he would have to get a little dirty to get things through the Senate. A Faustian bargain to be sure, but I think it was the right call.

Meh, you think anything short of a complete voucher system for both K-12 and HIED is nominal...so I don't think you are the best judge.

In his second term he has radically improved the K-12 system and completely redesigned public healthcare.

I don't think either of those can honestly be called "nominal."

Lots of NGO financing in HB2 wouldn't you agree??

A WHOLE bunch of local capital spending that should be on local entities.

I would argue that Alario did not have a majority of Senate colleagues behind him until Jindal called Claitor and Morrish into his office for a little chat (anyone with a clue knew Walsworth was going to bend over for Jindal). This is argument is especially valid when considered that Karen Carter Peterson isn't exactly found of Alario and her closest allies in the Senate were likely to follow her lead on who to support (yes, that's probably only 4-5 votes, but out of 39 with three Republicans in the mix, significant).

Don't think you are wrong, but that's why I said Roemer 2.0. You would have a substantial group of senators behind Alario who would be picking off Jindal's initiatives and waiting for the next governor so they can ascend to power. Nothing would get done in the Senate.

I wonder if Mr. Jindal wants to comment of Crimea again now that he has been campaigning in New Hampshire?

I doubt he found much support for his neo con foreign policy there.
