He would go down as a legend and be remembered as perhaps the most popular Senate Majority Leader ever.

Might want to think twice about that. The next Democratic President and Dem Senate could put a nominee left of Thurgood Marshall on the SC. Add the House and they could get Medicare for all.

Democrats were kicking themselves in the fricking arse over Harry Reid going nuclear on the filibuster rule after Trump made his nominations.

We would be basically be committing suicide if dems win senate and they give us single payer with no filibuster to stop them.

What's to stop the Dems from doing this even if the Reps don't?

The filibuster is terrible for everyone, Democrats and Republicans. It's time that elections actually have consequences for everyone involved.

You're the embodiment of the GOPe. Weak and lacking the courage to do what is necessary.

And we will just go back and forth every 8 years until the war starts and quickly ended.

It's a very basic Prisoner's Dilemma Game.

They will do it eventually, so we should do it now.

The filibuster was made and is what ensures bipartisan participation, so no, its not terrible for everyone.

That filibuster rule is the soul of the senate and is what has protected this country from truly radical ideas being legislated into reality and single payer is one of those.

I'm not intersted in going down the road of kick myself in the arse regret.

Do you really not think the Democrats will get rid of it the next time they have consolidated power?

Do you really want to have to live with the regret of nuking the filibuster when dems use it to bring us single payer?

When the Dims passed Odumbf*ckCare, they had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. What stopped them from instituting full Socialized Medicine was that those Senators who weren't in Blue States realized that any such vote would completely end their career. See, e.g., Mary Landrieu. Just to get Odumbf*ckCare they had to make deals like the so-called "Louisiana Purchase."

And, despite Odumbf*ck's assurances that he could save their jobs just by his magnanimous personality, Odumbf*ckCare is what led to the Senate and House going over to the Republicans. All of those Senators who feared for their jobs if they enacted Socialized Medicine, wound up losing their jobs anyway by voting for the Odumbf*ckCare.

So, I don't think that just getting 50 Dem Senators, 218 Reps, and the Presidency will necessarily lead to Socialized Medicine -- unless those Congressmen who aren't in DEEP Blue states are willing to sacrifice their political careers over it.

What guarantees us they won't do it anyway?

If the GOP actually did health care reform the right way there would be zero support for the Dems and their shitty single payer.

I'm aware the odds of this are extremely low.

If the filibuster was this bastion of our democracy it would have been put in the Constitution. It's been completely abused.

Seriously.

It would make my summer.
