Allowing the panic-inciting tactics of the media to get in the way of getting rid of an albatross isn't government.

The only way the current "flavor" of commie dems would be back in power is if spineless repubs keep being spineless repubs and acting like "we need to 'reach across the aisle'" chicken shits while having control of the House, Senate and White House. .

bullshite. They are Borg. There is only "the cause". Who dies in the fight is meaningless.

What alternative system would you advocate for? Just curious.

the filibuster wasn't part of the founding.

I understand it is not in the language of the founding documents.

But it was instituted as the 'way the Senate should operate' by patriotic founders.

Same way the Declaration of Independence doesn't have force of law either. But it forms a very big statement of "who we are."

Support this sentiment entirely.

If you are going to filibuster, then by god occupy the floor and speak.

I would definitely like to get rid of the faux-filibuster. That is certainly not within the way the filibuster was supposed to work. That does just institute a 60 vote rule.

The only way I actually support the filibuster is to physically get your arse up there and occupy the floor. If you don't have enough support to continue that occupancy, then you are too fringe to get in the way of stopping things for more than a day or so.

Could? I think it's pretty well agreed upon that if the Democrats ever regain power, they will put forth their own set of draconian laws that will make regaining power from them, near impossible. Hell, they are already trying to impeach Trump based on zero evidence other than "he's mean and hurts my feelings". The left is already radioactive.

Might want to think twice about that. The next Democratic President and Dem Senate could put a nominee left of Thurgood Marshall on the SC. Add the House and they could get Medicare for all.

The corrupt Dems are up there right now lying through their hypocritical teeth re the muh Russians thing, when their own Party colluded with Ukrainian *officials*. They rammed OCare through minus the Filibuster, and will do so again and again if they ever get the chance.

This is the problem; Republicans stand on principle and play fair....Dems don't. And it is exactly why Trump was elected. "Whatever it takes".

Republicans can change the course of this Nation for the foreseeable future by simply invoking majority rule. Chances come and go in life; they had better grab it and run.

That would be incredibly stupid.

You do realize that those who oppose you will have that same ability once they gain power?

What's to stop the Dems from doing this even if the Reps don't?

Nothing

And I am convinced that they will, using the excuse that since we did it for SCOTUS that they are justified in doing so, despite the fact that the filibuster was not originally meant to be used for appointments , just legislation

Politics has always been mean and contentious, but it is worse now than it ever has been since the 1860's

On the surface, I agree with Sentrius, but I am starting to change my mind...

You do realize they will have it either way, right?

Nothing's stopping them, regardless of if the GOP does it or not

I'm ok with majorities deciding things in Washington. Let's get cards on the table.

We've been shielded from Washington's true ineptitude for a while. The faster they get stuff enacted, the faster the pitchforks come out.

No

He saved the republic

Did you see the decision by the Supreme Court in Austria that overturned the conviction of the Muslim that raped a 10 year old little boy in a public bathroom at a public pool?

The conviction was overturned because the prosecution did not establish that the rapist was aware that the little boy did not consent

(Rapist did get convicted again in 2nd trial, but the decision to overturn was still absolutely disgusting)

THAT type of lunacy is what we were facing if Hillary had been able to replace Scalia, RBG would likely have retired & she had a shot to replace Kennedy & Thomas as well

And "voila" we are running down a rabbit hole we can't get out of

Mitch saved us, I do care deeply about health care and taxes, but Mitch isn't anywhere near burning the goodwill he built with me...
