How is it exactly that this number has tripled in two weeks? Everytime I used to see it here it was noted as $1 million a day. And I also have to wonder what currency they are really trading in, etc.

Houston Chronicle from this weekend

Also read this morning that we are hitting some of their oil resources to shut a bunch of this shite down

It boggles my mind. They had captured large swaths of Iraq and Syria, the U.S. and western allies weren't stopping them because everyone is so war-weary, they were generating tons of $ from their stolen oil wells and they were well on their way to establishing a caliphate - which was their stated goal.

Then they started cutting people's heads off. They goaded us into a fight. This pretty much guarantees that we're going to attack and destroy their oil (as you point out) and put them on the defensive (where they have to fight in open - can't blend in to population). Some say it was for recruiting. I would think you could recruit better with $3 million/day living in relative peace than living in caves and being constantly shot at.

Could you please share your national security credentials with us?

Stereotype much? I can't speak for the other 300+ million Americans but I served 6 years in the Army and can assure you that my record states that I am not a coward. Perhaps you are self-projecting?

I believe this is why everyone was trying to appease Hitler at one point as well.

War sucks, people die, lives and countries are ruined. I am generally against war but as a student of history I have learned that sometimes war is an absolute necessity. I am pleased that Obama has decided to take these barbarians on, my only concern is that we need to make certain that we are doing enough to drive these serial killers out of existence.

Greatest saying ever!

My buddy and I were at a tittie bar in NC and the MC kept saying this so its become sort of an inside joke amongst us. Not sure I've heard anyone else use it. Was a long shot but I was hoping you were that guy!

any one, such as the MC, who beats a saying into the ground so much that it becomes someone else's inside joke is probably not the kind of person I would aspire to be.

I think as long as we have a broad coalition fighting with us (especially with Arab countries), it will be fine. But if it starts falling apart...that will be a problem.

I agree. I would like to see Europe get more involved, especially the British.

They're already generating over $3 million/day off the oil wells they captured. Al Quaeda pulled off 9/11 with fewer than 50 people and $500k.

It amazes me when people say "such and such isn't a threat." 9/11 wasn't just a bunch of dead civilians, it changed the game of what a threat is. That's why 13 years later we're having our struggle over privacy vs security, because now we know with 19 hijackers you can kill a shite load of people.

How we react and move as a society forward with that knowledge from a security and privacy standpoint is still a matter of debate, but a group such as ISIS is objectively a threat to the homeland. Should we be starting wars over it is a different question.

likely the most intelligent thing you have ever posted, otoh, unfortunatley, thanks to politicians(especially the ones you prefer) keeping our borders wide open, any Islamic terrorist group with funding is a threat.

Then why do they keep saying they are? Are you calling Isis a bunch of liars?

First of all... That's f'ked up. If you deny the media's ability to persuade even you, you're a fool. Otherwise, you'd end up being something like a member of the Amish community sans the default affiliation with religion. When everyone believes something it's hard not to give it a good look or believe it yourself.

Secondly, maybe ISIS has no threat in terms of attacking us on our actual soil in a boots on the ground sort of way, but I think Americans don't think that. I believe we are concerned with another 9/11 style attack. If you think THAT'S something they're incapable of, you're a fool. Which means it's a legitimate concern.

quote:

Now, there is bipartisan support for Obama's brainless plan to differentiate between so-called "western friendly" Arabs and ISIS.

I'm anything but an Obama supporter. I do however believe it's a mind control game he's playing though. If he gets the actually peaceful by action Muslims (the ones living their lives with their families and believing their religion is one of peace) to speak out, then it WILL galvanize one against the other. It's a reasonable strategy due to the controllable and predictable nature of most people.

quote:

Whenever both republicans and democrats agree on something, we better beware. It's probably the stupidest idea imaginable.

I have to somewhat agree that it's either gonna be either REALLY good or REALLY bad.

quote:

There is no such thing as a western friendly Arab. They all hate us. Let them kill each other. That's the best scenario for us. The world would be a better place if they wiped each other out.

To the warlike ones, I couldn't agree more. Religion is a hyper powerful motivator. Perhaps as powerful as it gets in the real world in terms of being able to unify and coordinate around a common purpose.

The true question remains: Will the ones that are living out their lives in a peaceful way be WILLING to speak out adamantly against their psycho zealot others??

*Edit*

Just my perception... my two cents from the stuff I'm fed and read about. Probably just my own angle deviation from common sentiment.

This is a Saudi versus Iranian religious war. Why are we even involved in picking a side between the Shiites and Sunnis? This is an Arab problem not a western problem.
