Infamously, He wanted to cut the department while he was running for president and then forgot he wanted to do that.

LINK rick perry thought he was going to be a global oil and gas ambassador

And recently

Taylor Kuykendall @taykuy·Jul 6
DOE Rick Perry at coal plant:"Here’s a little economics lesson: supply and demand. You put the supply out there and the demand will follow."

He doesn't know how supply and demand works

The DOE has a long lineage of incredibly smart secretaries and then we get a guy who made a 2.5 in ag science at A&M

Edit: downvotes from aggies
Edit2: poli board is dumber than I thought

DeVos is clearly the stupidest. And she has no prior experience doing anything but fund-raising.

Apparently neither did Steve Jobs because he kind of said the same thing and did it.

It's called supply side economics, e.g.; the customer does not know what he or she wants until you tell them

There's a glut of 17 million tons of coal on the market. He was referencing a price increase with more supply.. it's pretty obvious that he didn't know what he was talking about

Steve job's quotes on the matter are often take out of context and are not applicable to what perry said.

He isn't completely wrong. To start with there cannot be a demand for a product that doesn't exist. You have to supply a product and if it is successful and well done the demand for it will grow.

Demand can only exist when there is no supply if talking about generic ideas/needs and not specific products.

Was Steve Jobs selling lumps of coal at Best Buy for $650.00 each? Coal is not an exciting new product with cutting edge technology.

Apparently it is YOU who doesn't understand supply and demand.

If you have multiple sources of energy available and once source has been priced out of the market by artificial means (government regulations) and then you remove those regulations thereby allowing producers to produce at a price that is cheaper than the alternatives then of course the demand for that product will go up.

Allow me to simplify so that liberals can try to keep up.

Let's say Bob grows apples for a living

Now let's say Tom grows Kiwis for a living.

Now, let's say apples are cheaper to grow and distribute, but the government believing that kiwis are better decides to put a prohibitive tax on apples. making apples cost 3X as much as kiwis.

Now obviously Bob is going to lose customers to Tom over this, as planned. Because who wants to pay 3X more for their fruit?

How is Bob going to react to this lack of demand? Of course he's going to cut the supply. So we can say that the government regulations resulted in a lack of apple supply, yes?

Of course we can.

So, if we then remove the regulations Bob is going to start growing apples again, And what happens if Bob starts growing apples again and they are cheaper than Kiwis as they were before the regulations? Oh thats right the supply of apples at the store creates a demand for those apples.

Uhhh...not even close. Jobs was more "the people don't know what they want until they see it." That isn't supply & demand. It is making an argument for ignorance.

If I make millions of shite pie sandwiches...the demand most certainly will never follow. What Perry said would imply my shite sandwiches would sell out.

also, supply side economics have been thoroughly debunked in the 21st century.

Regulation killed the R&D required to reduce the cost of FGD. No way to know if it would be competitive right now.

However, if NPR (heard a bit on the way home) didn't completely go in the tank on everything he said, Perry's an idiot for proposing forced use of coal.

Not a great sentence

Something tells me that this applies to you too. Because, I suspect you think something about it that many laymen believe that isn't actually so.

So hey. Tell me how it works in relation to his statement and why you consider his statement dumb.

I look forward to the humor.
