With the explosion in homeschooling in the last decade, can we risk children not being taught tolerance and diversity in the home? Sure, they do well in the academic arena, but are they leaning to about social issues and the environment?
I think what you're really trying to say is: 'With the explosion in homeschooling in the last decade, can we risk children not being taught that having gay sex is completely normal and even praise worthy? And shouldn't our precious children be taught that saying ANYTHING remotely negative against our gay brethren will not be tolerated. I mean, teaching others the value of tolerance and diversity in the home is very important, right?'

Really? You're pathetic. Can you show any legitimate research or credible data to support your claim?

Of course he can't. Just a typical idiotic statement coming from an idiot.

I like the idea of banning home schooling. I think it's healthy for society to have that common experience of a public education. PUblic education does need a makeover though back to the old ways of doing things. Dividing students by intelligence level so teachers aren't teaching down to the lowest common denominator. Testing such as common core and leap should be thrown out or at least just given maybe in 4th, 8th and 12th grades and teachers and schools shouldn't be penalized for the dumbasses grades that dumbass students make on these tests. Whatever 'no child left behind' is should be tossed out. Don't know what it is but just from the title I know it's a bad thing. Those that intentionally disrupt and create a non learning environment in the class room should be 'left behind' or at least sent to the special school for retards and malcontents. One of the problems is teachers can't teach when they have retards constantly disrupting and creating a chaotic environment in their class rooms. If we can get public education back on track, which just needs some minor to major tweaks, is the way to go for creating a unified, instead of splintered, society.

So it must be harmful to the collective.

What time period would you hearken back to as a model for how public schools should be?

Do you also like the idea of civil war? You can't dictate what responsible people do with their kids.

Banning freedom of choice and brainwashing the young does go a long way to creating a shitty, totalitarian society.

Unfortunately, a primary reason for the "explosion" of homeschooling is to combat the teaching of evolution and that the universe is older than 6000 yrs.

the exact opposite is true. homeschooling has evolved from a primarily "religious right" movement to encompass liberal hippie types, world travelers who want to give their kids a broader perspective, and mainstream urbanites.

They do well as long as they are taught subjects correctly.

And, what the hell is the point of this sentence?

c'mon deep down we know home school parents want their kids away from others who differ and that's their right. These kids can grow up to be in frats and sororities and not have to mix with others. From home school to the segregation academy to exclusivity. Just sayin

Just sayin. My neighbor home schooled a boy and four girls. They all have their BS. The boy is working toward his Masters. Two of the girls work in helping children in foreign countries. One spent two years in Africa teaching kids to read, write, and speak English. She is in Turkey at this time. The other traveled around the globe on a mercy ship.
The entire family has didicated themselves to serving humanity.
They do however, despise Obama as well as George Bush.

just curious, are their humanitarian efforts based on their religious beliefs?

Damn I missed this thread. Home school grad checking the frick in. First public school I attended was Texas A&M.

Haven't read the thread, but let me guess.....have homeschoolers been called unsocialized introverts yet? Or just weirdos?

It went there.

Friend of mine homeschooled his kids. He used to be a D.A. in an Alaskan city. One of his boys is partially deaf, his daughter is totally deaf. Older boy (not hearing impaired) is an Architect here in town, younger boy is a real estate developer. The daughter goes to Gallaudet University in Washington DC. Probably some of the most well adjusted kids I've been around.

The "Homeschooled kids are all weirdos" falsehood is another example of people just repeating stuff they hear with little personal experience.
