Oh, I'm sure. Probably double secret.

So are you saying that the government taking on additional powers without citizen consent is constitutional or are you saying that you don't care if it's not constitutional even though you took an oath to uphold that constitution?

Our government needs to be monitored more closely by the people it's supposed to serve rather than the other way around.

Agree. You can take away a hell of a lot of freedom from people by simply scaring them into giving it up without a fight and thinking it's for their own good.

I'll take a little chaos and more freedom.

This is where you are missing the point. The Patriot Act, while noble with it's intentions, is nothing more than a way for those in power to use information against their opponents.

I have nothing to hide to while speaking to my wife or parents or children. But what is going to stop someone within the "agency" from listening to political opponents conversations with a mistress or his advisers. The point you are missing is that those in power control the information and that only leads to more power.

What really pisses me off if the group think that if you are concerned about this government power grab, you must not support the military. That's such an elementary thought process. I DO support our military. That's why I strongly demand that the constitution our military risks their lives for is honored and respected. Whole lot of McCarthyism up in here.

It's the people's job to bring that power into check. Don't like it? Go to the ballot box and vote for someone who agrees with you. That's how this country works.

And it's a deeply unreliable check.

Absolutely. I totally support our soldiers in defense of our borders. This doesn't mean I have to support what I consider government overreach, or a bloated military abroad.

And THIS is what Snowden's supporters are attempting to do. You can't check something you don't know about. Without him, we know nothing. Now that we know a tiny piece of it, it's time for the people that don't agree with it make sure the public is educated and given the opportunity to agree or not. Instead, those who DO agree with what the government is doing tried to scare or shame the other view points into silence without offering any factual, confirmed information. I'm tired of being scared into silence on things.

You are either naive or trolling. This administration has the ability to read every email, listen to every phone call of any political adversary in the country.

That's hard to do when the those in power can discredit any of their opponents from illegally obtaining communications.

It's not really even about THIS administration in the broad sense. This problem doesn't go away by just electing a Republican.

How the hell are we supposed to keep in check that which we know nothing about? It's a catch 22. We are responsible for keeping it in check but we can't know about it and those who attempt to keep it in check by informing citizens are deemed treasonous immediately and any information he provides is discounted. Hate Snowden. Fine. But acknowledge what he did and the info he provided JUST so the citizens have a chance to keep the government in check.

This problem started with a Republican. It's not about politics, it's about government. Those who support it now bc it's being used by the Obama administration will live to regret that decision when the leadership flips.

While I detest this current administration, I agree, no party should have this amount of power and control of information flow. I haven't even gotten to that point yet. What happens to his point of view when the other political party is in power?

People act like saying "Whoa" for a minute and questioning authority is a bad thing. Are we not allowed to protest policy we think is wrong?e

The ballot box isn't the only avenue Americans have to make their voice heard.

“It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority.”

“One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.”

“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”
? Edward Abbey
