Damn, pretty striking

I wonder how much of this is due to redistricting vs idea entrenchment (presumedly from the rise of the internet)

Thanks for sharing

That just shows how far to the left the Democratic Party has gone.

At first glance, it appears it's only red that is getting more red, but if you look at the california coast, chicago area, etc you would see it getting bluer.

The red is a lot bigger, the blue that gets darker is more concentrated.

Entrenchment. Redistricting affects the House, not the presidential vote.

Yea, didnt mean to indicate that it’s aimply a 1-sided shift. Seeing growing blue in New Mexico/Nevada/Massachusetts as well.

Southwest shift is due to hispanic immigration, but also upper class whites being turned off by some populism in the GOP.

Yet we think all the “woke” people and 4chan and Facebook and twitter and Dicky Spencer and 24hr news and talk radio are a good thing? I hear that here all the time. Let’s shake the tree. Someone convinced a bunch of idiots that reinforcing irreconcilable poles of thought and action might have the same stabilizing effect on a nation that it did on the world order for ~45 years. Let’s just get all the nonsense and vitriol out into the open and all will be well.

Nonsense. There are studies that suggest that constantly consuming and exerting anger aren’t the release valves we thought. They actually produce more anger.

So here we stand...

The Democrats abandoned the working class. I don’t think it’s all that complicated.

With the exception of Trump the Republicans have half heartedly embraced those voters.

I don't know. You might be able to say the opposite. People may have been more politically divided in 1992 since elections were more contested giving a closer to 50/50 vote in a given county.

Social media may just give the appearance that we are more divided than ever.

Goes right to my Johnny Carson theory that the country has been splintering since his retirement in 1992. Those maps represent a country with fewer and fewer shared experiences. You could probably trace a line from May of 92 to the OJ Trial to Lewinskly Scandal to the Florida Recount to Iraq to the Financial Crisis to Obama and then to Trump. Add in 24/7 Cable News plus Social Media and there you go.

Politics has become such a team sport. People want politics to bleed into every part of life. No respect for opposing viewpoints. Only a desire for echo chambers.

And that is the biggest indictment of their complete lack of political acumen. That is a huge voting bloc that could deliver the GOP the rust belt and make more gains in New England.

Gerrymandering

Has always existed. It existed in colonial Virginia.

And this shows county by county results, not congressional districts.
