As a taxpayer, I should not be responsible for supporting them in anyway as they have broken laws to illegally enter our country. They shouldn't be here.......and are not my or other taxpayers responsibility.

An illegal comes here with kids, works a cash job, but enrolls his kids in school. Guess who is paying for the building, teachers, free meals, etc? Take it a step further as they seek to access food stamps, medical, etc.

We collectively pay for that expense.
Why should an illegal be entitled to come here and receive assistance, directly or indirectly, work and pay no tax.

Anyone that works, provides for their family and pays state, local and federal taxes is crazy to want to look the other way here.

Sure, unlike some who view these individuals as criminals, I see them as valuable Human Resources capable of contributing to the economy in a meaningful way that strengthens America's position in the world.

If you deny these kids an education, you are asking for more state dependent individuals and more crime. Teach these kids how to work for themselves, earn a living, contribute to their communities. How could anyone be against this?

That's a tough question.

Obviously in a perfect world, no... nothing is free. The money comes from somewhere, and in public schools, that's the tax base. We shouldn't have to pay for the consequences of illegal activity by non-citizens. When they register, the family should be checked, and deported if necessary. Oh, and they can take their kids with them, so it isn't separating families... I wouldn't leave my kid in another country if I had to leave.

If they're not leaving, then you have to do something with them. They need to integrate into society.... for the safety of the community.

Why can't Mexico do this?

Agree. If they are here, it is cheaper to teach them to read and be productive than to keep them ignorant and have them grow up to be uneducated bums or criminals.

A few years of public school with free lunch is way cheaper than a stretch at Angola with free everything.

If you catch them and boot them out, okay, but if they manage to stay here, I prefer they be educated.

If they are citizens, yes. If they are not, then no. If the United States really wanted to work on the illegal immigration problem, they would make it easier for people to get citizenship and temporary work visas, with proper vetting of course. It won't stop all illegal immigrants, but would cut down on it.

My answer is an emphatic yes, and here's why...

Most of the posters here are missing the question. This question isn't whether you are ok with illegal immigration, it's not asking whether illegal immigrants should or should not be deported. Even if you take as fact that the majority on this board believe that every illegal immigrant should be deported when possible and we should be doing all we can to stop it, that will never completely eliminate illegal immigration. So the question is, what do we do with the ones who "slip through the cracks"?

We have to educate them. There's really no other logical answer. If a child crossed the border illegal with their parents, it's not the child's fault or choice. You can want the government to work diligently to deport that family (including the child) but in the meantime, that child needs to be educated. If you don't educate the child than you are just feeding into the vicious cycle and making it much more likely that the child turns into the criminal low life that so many are worried about.

So, TLDR version: no matter your view on illegal immigration, the child must have access to education while the family is in the country, even if the government is trying to find/deport them.

I do hope Trump overturns the anchor baby law.

This is the most critical thing that needs to be done after boarder security. However, Trump is going to have to get his justice on the SCOTUS first. Would be even better if Ginsburg would go ahead and retire or croak and we could get two justices on there.

Regarding the issue with children I am highly conflicted. I don't think children should be punished or impacted because of their parents choices. New illegal arrivals should be returned. I am actually sympathetic to DACA and it should probably stay in place. Humane decisions have to be made.
