Thank God for the government. I trust them completely.

In California, it’s now a crime to refuse to use the gender pronoun nursing home residents prefer.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed the “LGBT Senior Bill of Rights” Thursday, which only applies to nursing homes and long-term care facilities. According to the law, people who “willfully and repeatedly” do not “use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” could, if found guilty of the misdemeanor, spend up to a year in county jail and face a $1000 fine. The law also requires the aforementioned facilities to allow residents to use the bathroom of their choice.

When is California going to secede?

It can't happen soon enough.

This is not constitutional.

I'd be shocked if many people were found guilty of breaking this law in a courtroom.

This is just a bill to make some people feel better about themselves in the end. Does almost nothing to help their citizens out.

If I was old I would troll the frick out of the nursing home staff with this.

Just think for a second how they'd truly enforce this law...

Hint: They probably won't enforce much, if at all...

It's the classic Democrat grand gesture of nothingness routine.

It won't. Besides the obvious free speech issue, there's an equal protection argument imo. If it isn't illegal to refer to a straight male or female by the wrong gender, either by mistake or intention, it cannot be illegal to do the same thing to a transgender.

It's blatantly unconstitutional. How can you jail someone for using the wrong speech? If it's legal to call someone the N word it sure as hell legal to call a he a he, whether he likes it or not.

No way the speech portion of it holds up in court

Exactly.

It's like trying to jail someone for, if I may use you for an example, telling you to "go home to your mommy with that stuff little girl" (and yes i'm assuming you're a grown man). Or even saying, "you throw like a girl" when you're a tranny or alphabet soup LBTQ-WTF.

What a complete bullshite post. You act as though the law was enacted for the sole purpose the LGBT provision and the the one year punishment is solely for the instance when an improper pronoun is used - both based on a typically bullshite Townhall article.

The one year maximum jail penalty is for a violation of any number of the provisions of the California code governing Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly.

No one is going get a year for using the wrong pronoun.

You're a twat.

Well that's unconstitutional, and as much as I hate the mother fricker and find him to be an utterly repulsive human being I thought died out 20 years ago, human cesspool Jeff Sessions should go after them for violating the 1st Amendment.

If they decided to push it, and I bet they will try and make an example out of someone, they could make it very hard financially and personally on someone.

I'm fine with gay marriage and trans people choosing whatever gender they want. But, this is pretty much unconstitutional and is what keeps killing the left
