Four figures that he thought were among the greatest that this country had produced. And guess who one of the four was.

A man that in his own words was "one of the most supremely gifted men produced by our nation. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history."

LINK

A wise man indeed.

I Like Ike.

Dislike of CSA soldiers and leaders was non-existent in American politics until the 21st century.

Well according to the article there was at least one hater in 1960. And Ike was correct, it was "The War Between the States."

Glad to see we now have a President now that is exhibiting the courage of his convictions like Ike had.

Well the Dentist wasn't wrong:

The most outstanding thing that Robert E. Lee did, was to devote his best efforts to the destruction of the United States Government, and I am sure that you do not say that a person who tries to destroy our Government is worthy of being held as one of our heroes.

This country would have been fricked and eventually the nation of states in two separate countries on the same soil wasn't going to ever work (why the South believed it could be independant on the same soil is beyond imagination.).

The South's only way to victory was to destroy the Federal government.

So, the Dentist was right about that.

The entire goal of the Confederacy was to topple the United States like Isis and Al Qaeda. Not really a noble endeavor in retrospect...I mean, when you think about it, objectively.

As Grant said: The present difficulty, in bringing all parts of the United States to a happy unity and love of country grows out of the prejudice to color. The prejudice is a senseless one, but it exists.

Grant proposed civil rights legislation (and would be the last president to do so until Dwight D. Eisenhower, nearly a century later)

Grant authorized federal troops to confront the Ku Klux Klan and other groups of anti-black terrorists. Declaring them “insurgents … in rebellion against the authority of the United States,”

"The South's war against her country was one of the worst for which a people ever fought, and one for which there was the least excuse."
- US Grant

Would you rather have slavery today, or the Civil War, which Lincoln chose to end slavery and save the Union.

I'm sure Ike respected him as another great general.

Lee was one of the best spoken people this country has ever seen. Without him, there never would have been any healing. It would have been continuous war. But he convinced Southerners that it was time to heal. And that's one reason Lincoln pardoned the South. Things could have gone way different and more violent. Lee prevented that.

He did so much more than those who want to paint him as a treasonous bastard traitor. For those who think that, take the time to learn the real history rather than your lazy HS teacher's version.

That is not even remotely true. The South never had any intention of destroying the Federal government. They would not have forced the North to live under a Southern government, unlike the tyrants in the North.

Several nations exist in Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia on the same soil. To think that 2 nations couldn't share the vast expanse of this country is ridiculous.

Grant was a drunk and incredibly wrong. Fighting against tyranny is always a noble endeavor.

"War of Sedition".

Ike' s romantic view of history cannot spare these traiterous losers from the truth.

Lee was one of the most honorable men the nation has produced. Without his guidance and influence, this nation could have been subjected to decades of guerrilla warfare and mounting tension.

This current kerfuffle is nothing more than an attempt to create now the violent division that Lee worked so hard to prevent 150 years ago.

All because the snowflakes lost an election.

I have hated the DEM leadership for decades now, but was just sad for the DEM voters. I am beginning to include the voters in my loathing. They have become completely unhinged and destructive within their own belief system.

He pardoned people because he didn't want to lose court decisions by trying to prosecute crimes that didn't exist.

Ike's thoughts on Lee

Thank you, I had never read that and frankly did not know he hung his photo in the Oval Office.

A lot of other folks are talking about helping them leave.

Anybody who believes the country won't break apart eventually is naive.
