So. Does that make it right or wrong?
I would say that he showed an excellent judgement on character and conviction in regards to General Lee. Lee ranks right up there with Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Teddy Roosevelt IMO. Ironically Lee was not my favorite General from the War Between the States. That would be Stonewall Jackson. IMO the most interesting character from the war and a military genius. Both Lee and Jackson were Christian gentlemen.
It is indeed sad that this nation no longer has leaders such as Ike that aren't afraid to stand up for their convictions.

Sorry, wrong Jackson
What do you know about Jackson? He had some good moments and that is what he is mainly remembered for.
1. He went against the Supreme Court decision and signed the Indian Removal Act. It was terrible for the Native Americans and one of the worst acts ever signed by a president.
2. Was in favor of slavery and fought hard against abolition.
3. He was the only president to balance the budget, but the way he accomplished it caused the Panic of 1837 a depression the lasted 7 years.
4. He was a womanizer that cheated on his wife many times. He eventually married one of his mistresses who was still married to another man.
Much like the portrait of Lee it is not the best choice to have in the Oval Office. It seems like Ike chose military men not great leaders of the United States.

I don't think that I ever mentioned Andrew Jackson. Don't know why you did?
