bernie maddoff? ...

a rapists? ... would probably need several criteria as far as evidence is concerned - DNA evidence, witnesses, etc ... would be rare, but the other thread about the teenage girls that held down the victim, along with the guy who raped her, would be eligible if they met the age requirement ...

vehicular manslaughter while drunk after you've received X duis? ...

molesting a child under X age, while you're Y years above them in age? ...

others? ...

Castration for child sex abusers. I don't think you can fix that sickness with jail or treatment. And their victims often grow up to be abuses themselves so its a problem which perpetuates itself.

I'd be ok with the state turning certain heinous offenders over to the victims families to do what they want.

Only murder should qualify for the death penalty.

The other offenses merit life in prison at hard labor with no chance of parole.

Like if you were driving without insurance and wreck someone, you would have to become their butler?

I wouldn't think that's worthy of capital punishment, but that's just me.

Deterrence only comes with certainty so I would first apply a cap of 2 years for appeals.

Crimes that get cap pun...

1. Murder
2. Aggravated rape of a child (and I mean a REAL child...like 4 years old, not 16)
3. Driving slow in the left lane (3rd offense).

Method...Before lethal injection the prisoner should have his healthy organs removed for transplant to waiting patients. I once got into a debate with a lefty about transplants who said "Don't you think that's immoral?" My answer "What's immoral about saving innocent lives?"

I'd be ok with giving judges/juries much more flexibility in judgements including forced servitude and physical punishment like lashing, castration and amputation.

As long as the evidence is iron-clad I wouldn't mind seeing serial rapists put to death. Confirmed pedophiles (ie: adults raping children, not two people within 4 years of each other having consensual sex but being charged by a parent) would definitely be on my list.

yes, we need to kill more people.

Rapists and child molesters need to die.

no. Capita punishment is dumb. Only appeal is revenge. It's not a deterrent.

That's why it isn't called Capital Deterrent.

Yes, it is. If applied correctly. For example. King Faisal was murdered by his cousin in Saudi Arabia. They chopped off his head with small intervals for more pain. Think one quarter inch of the neck per hour. Murder rate in Saudi Arabia is very low.

In the US public hangings during the 19th century were used as deterrents as children were brought to the town square to see what happens when you are bad.

The concept that 'CP does not deter' is silly because we've never really used CP in the last half century. When we start executing 10 people a day the murder rate will drop drastically.

Are you saying Saudi law would work here? I don't think so.

I would extend it to rape of a minor, serial rape, Murder in the first degree, but have judges apply with a high level of discretion.

Not a deterrent, and preventative measure. A gang banger who shot three people, probably will continue to be violent in prison.

Don't get stupid with me. Saudi law re: CP used to work in the US.

I agree.

I would also limit capital punishment to 4 methods:

Gas, electrocution, hanging and firing squad. Obviously a state has the choice of which to provide, but if they allow for multiple methods, the condemned should be able to choose.

Also, the execution should be televised. People that actually attend the site of the execution should be provided closed circuit access.

It needs to be feared (therefore the method should be fearsome, not a shot, then you go to sleep forever) and public - so that the younger generation, other criminals and potential criminals are put on notice.
