I'm trying to get on board with this administration but holy hell, it's frustrating. Rand Paul was my guy but I got on the MAGA train.

Jeff Sessions is a disaster and his stance on Marijuana and civil asset forfeiture is alarming. The marijuana issue has been debated at length here so we won't rehash - the benefits I have seen from living in Denver for 3 years speak for themselves. Tons of tax money, tons of new jobs, etc. etc.

Here's Jeff Sessions today:

quote:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has twice in two days publicly bashed marijuana legalization, abandoning his confirmation-process reticence to discuss the topic and reclaiming his colorful opposition.

quote:

“Marijuana is a cure for opiate abuse? Give me a break," Sessions told the room, discounting what he said was a recent Washington Post headline associating lax pot laws with less opioid abuse, a link demonstrated by research.

"This is the kind of argument that’s been made out there, almost a desperate attempt to defend the harmlessness of marijuana or even its benefits,” Sessions said. “I doubt that’s true. Maybe science will prove I’m wrong, but at this point in time you and I have a responsibility to use our best judgment – that which we’ve learned over a period of years – and speak truth as best we can. My best view is that we don’t need to be legalizing marijuana.”

quote:

Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman, a Republican who has been personally opposed to legalization despite her state’s pioneering recreational marijuana initiative in 2012, tells U.S. News she is concerned about Sessions' remarks.

Elected in 2014, Coffman told colleagues in 2015 that legalization was "not worth it.” But she says that now she believes things have gone “better than I thought they would.” “We’ll send him a letter and say, ‘You need to come to Colorado and visit us and see what we’re doing with regulation and enforcement before coming in with some sort of edict,'” she says.

Don't we have more important shite to worry about?

Both sides would agree we do.

Ignoring federal law is a bad idea.

Ugh. The big tobacco and alcohol lobbies doing work. Absolutely ZERO reason for mary Jane to be illegal still. When someone can go and get a bottle of Xanax, a carton of cigarettes, and a liter of whiskey all at once and then proceed to do all three with zero legal repercussions. But dammit if you wanna smoke a bowl before bed you are literally Satan.

I don't even smoke weed - I'm still on active duty.

Perhaps yall could use some of the millions of dollars in tax revenue we gain every year, or the 10s of thousands of jobs it's created here.

Trump picked sessions for immigration. He also said MULTIPLE times he would leave this to the states.

He really needs to reel Sessions in here. Kicking the issue to the states and staying hands off would not only be good policy, but would improve his standing with independents and "right leaning" libertarians.

Who fricking cares what people do with their own bodies. If it's no negatively effecting anyone else, let them get high. I don't smoke weed, but I'm not gonna stop someone else from.

actually you can't go get a bottle of xanax at the same place you get cigarettes and whiskey because cvs and walgreens stopped selling cigarettes. It's a scheduled drug that you need a prescription for.

the big difference you dopeheads don't understand between medicine and marijuana is that medications are made in labs by nice clean americans and asians and weed is grown by mexican cartels and they probably poo in the fields when they're growing it

but you're addicted so you don't really care i guess

What's tiresome to me is how every story about this administration is cause for hysterics.

OK, Session's ain't hip to muh weed. How bout we wait until he sends the feds into legal marijuana states before we chimp out?

I'd also argue that Session's is correct about the junk science & half truths that are peddled around as fact to justify it's legalization.
