I told someone yesterday that Bill Nye isn't really a scientist, and that his degree is in engineering. Her response was it's pretty difficult to get an engineering degree and that she probably couldn't do it. I said she's right about engineering not being easy, but what does that have to do with Bill Nye being perceived as "the science guy"? She had no response.

It's applied science. So no, not doing experiments like a proper scientist but uses physics and chemistry in their day to day job duties.

Bill Nye has a degree in mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers are scientists of physics, not biology. I don't consider him as a qualified expert on all things science just because he once had a tv show for kids about science which he now openly contradicts on a daily basis. He's a "scientist" who doesn't stick to the science his degree qualifies him to speak of intelligently, and I think the reason he's doing all this now is for the attention and as a response to the supposed "attack" on science by people who disagree with the "science" of Progressives.
