I am a right-wing guy and I am on board with a gun ban

I am on board with gun control. It's time to take a look at new gun laws, baws. It just is.
No one seems to have a problem with fully auto weapons being banned since the 1930's. No one proclaims that is a violation of the 2nd amendment. So why would it be a violation to limit semi-auto style military weapons like AK's and AR's? Licensing won't work because this guy would have most likely passed all background checks anyway. The only real solution is to ban their manufacture and import completely.
I am fine with handguns and people carrying handguns. I think humans have a basic right to self-defense. However, I do think open carry is silly and makes Americans look like a bunch of retarded cowboys. I see people in Texas carrying assault rifles around. C'mon is this really who we want to be?
I am against a Clinton 1990's style ban because it doesn't work. I actually bought a "post ban" AR and an AK during that time. The gun companies had many ways to make rifles that complied with the stupid Clintonian rules. The only way to make the law effective is to outlaw semi-auto rifles all together (of any magazine capacity). If you simply say "you can only have mags of 10 rounds", there are way too many easy ways around that.
A gun confiscation like Canada, England and Australia all did in the past probably wouldn't work here. So I say let's ban the manufacture and sale of any future semi-auto rifles and require a license (like is required for a fully auto gun) for the sale of rifles already in circulation. It's not perfect, but it would stop people like this guy from going to his local gun store and buying 18 rifles.

Yesterday it was fully automatics, today it is semi-automatic rifles, tomorrow it's handguns.
I'm afraid you don't understand the slippery slope. The ultimate goal is to ban the use of all firearms. You are playing right into the hands of liberal progressives and you don't even realize it.

I don't understand how people say this despite the fact that handguns are responsible for the overwhelming majority of gun deaths.
Edit: Looks like handguns are responsible for about 98% of gun deaths.

you're wrong, but I'm not going to go to the trouble to tell you why you are wrong

Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile

then you are fine with the VAST majority of gun crimes
rifles are responsible for a VERY small % of gun-related homicides (and it gets even lower if you include suicides for gun-related deaths)
hand guns are the primary outlet of gun-related homicides

So when it's knives, bleach, rocks, etc., then where will you be?

There is no difference operationally in an AR/AK and a Remington 750 pure hunting rifle. It’s nonsensical to ban a firearm simply because it looks scary. And full auto weapons are not banned. They are heavily regulated.

Never give up your guns......never. That includes assault rifles.
If we surrender our weapons then demons like Stephen Paddock have won.

Yeah, gun control won't come from this.
The GOP will offer prayers for the victims and then take marching orders from the NRA.
Trump has already said everything he will say regarding it and then roll back to giving some more red meat to his base.
I knew the possibility of gun control died after we pretty much just shrugged our shoulders after 20 kids got gunned down at sandy hook.
Bury the dead and move on is the motto of the USA.

You have no understanding of the intent of the constitution.
The thing that blows my mind is you liberals are scared of tyrant fascist Hitler trump, but support strict gun control. That is counter intuitive

Yep
Handgun ban and confiscation would likely have an actual impact on gun crime. It would be at a high cost and is very unrealistic, but it's probably the one gun control measure that would be meaningful.
