Yeah he'd be too busy running away with her bag

I've done my fair share of pretending to like something for a chic, so I understand the strategy.

Words I wish she would use:

"Medium size"
"Baked, not fried"
"A balanced meal"
"Caloric intake"
"No thanks, I'm full."

Perhaps the guy was just impatient and rude?

If she knew the train was nearly full, why take up a seat with her bag? Wouldn't this also make her rude.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but everytime people of differing ethnicities have a poor encounter it doesn't mean it happened due to racism.

This person of color has an objection

Rosa Parks fought to get a seat, now we have fat counts who take up all space and shout racism if asked to share @Salon @ProfessorCrunk wtf?

Well, in order to "encapsulate the breadth" of her arse, she needs more that one seat

What are the odds she knew he was there initially politely asking her to move her bag off the seat off a full train so he could occupy it and ignored him hoping he would move on?

I would have done the same thing in his shoes. Either that or plopped the bag on the floor in front of her cankled legs without a word.

See this how Americans think. They don't see a black person or a white man, they just see you as fat and rude...no racial animus, no white guilt liberals. New York, or New Orleans, this is how we think

This is why even millenials are getting turned off to the whole diversity issue (according to an article I just read). Even if you and everyone you know treats everyone the same, some people will just never get over their skin color. It's exhausting. I'm not going to spend my life bending over backwards. I may be white, but guess what, I have shite to deal with too. I'm not oppressing you so you dont expect me to cater to you either. Stupid bitch.

He probably asked her several times to move her bag, but she wasn't listening. But, what do I know? I am just blinded by my white privilege.

What I find amazing about this article is this:
1) She's a professor at Rutgers, so she's likely taking a commuter train.
2) As someone who took a commuter train into NYC for several years, I can tell you that it is the commuter train policy that all seats must be made available. The conductor actually has the right to forcibly remove your bag from the seat if you do not do it yourself, and you from the train if you make a stink about it. I have had to remove my bag several times for other traingoers.
3) If I was a parent sending my kid to the most expensive unversity in the country, I would be concerned that they are using that tuition money to bring in people that don't understand these basics.

I am going out on a limb here and bet that old man doesn't give a damn about her color. He is just a rude old man.

I knew it was going to suck as soon as she indicated the name brand of her supposed status symbol headphones.

I don't think you understand the NJ transit Policy. You aren't allowed to have a bag on the seat if there are standing passengers. Every seat must be made available. Should he have waited for the conductor to do it for him? You think the old white man wants to sit next to the fat black woman wearing beats?

Yep. A rude and/or frustrated man responding to a rude and/or frustrated woman. Simplest explanation (Occams Razor). It's amazing the lack of logic and reason in some of these academics. But I guess they gravitate towards fields (Humanities) where research is not usually experimental and/or quantitatively oriented.

But my bet goes with riding the train while yankee.
If you live in crowded bustling locales, self-absorbed folks you encounter may be rude. Nothing more. Nothing less.

In this case, the other problem may be riding the train while fat.

Sorry, but the overfed woman in that pic spilled well over her seat into the next, before she ever tried to confiscate the next one with her stuff.

I get touchy (quietly) when people shuffle my bag around to make room in the overhead...even though I do it to others' bags all the time.

One of those human things, I guess.
