There’s pandering…and then there’s just crossing a line that should not be crossed.

Examples:

Saban
Drew Brees

frick them.

My feelings have nothing to do with football. Auburn is still a state funded university. UA is too. And yes, of course id be happy if Saban was our coach... Until today. Now, i would immediately spend a significant amount of time and money to call on fellow alumni to get him fired.

And I guarantee every player on every team has a fricking student ID or a license w/ their SS card in hand ready to cash that NIL $$$.

As for the politics, I could live with Saban being a liberal, but I can't live with him advocating for the destruction of the way of life in a state that pays him 12 million a year. No one in Alabama is limiting anyone's right to vote and he knows this, he is just being politically correct and that makes it worse for me for some reason.

Perfect…I’ll take it just a bit further.
Saban is basically advocating for 70% of Alabama’s citizens to lose their political voice at the federal level.
It’s an unacceptable stance - especially for a state employee.

No college should be spending $10 million on a sports coach.

But then again colleges shouldn’t have football teams anyways. We are the only nation on earth that has our institutes of higher learning for some reason subsidize sports franchises. Money for new buildings, professors, research, academic scholarships, or lowering tuition? Nah, we’ve got football programs that are much more important that we need to pay for!

Does Nick Saban recruit a bunch of middle road Alabama fans to the Left here?

Saban, like LBJ, will have some folks rooting for bama for the next 200 years.

Bad take.

The vast majority of the funding that our colleges spend on sports would fricking vaporize over night if sports went away.

Right because the athletics programs at major universities are all about state pride and funding. Get a fricking clue…that died years ago and NIL was the death nail.

I think most of us would take championships if it means the coach we disagree with shouts into the wind.

It's not like Saban is actually affecting anything.

I used to watch multiple sports games every night. I might watch one every 3-4 months now, and it’s usually the second half. I completely stopped watching ESPN, which I did every morning. I even deleted their app and now use theScore app

Part of it is me growing out of it. The kids seem to have complete control. It’s a spectacle now in recruiting. I completely cut off when they got political. I remember a bottom line news line about trump. Anyway, it started to seem ridiculous to put in so much time following teenagers, especially as our country is on fire all around us. We need to fix that first

I admit I watch a lot of football, but I agree with everything you’ve said here. Most people I think want to just enjoy following the game and will ignore this stuff to a point, but when it’s so brazen it becomes hard to ignore.

The day will come when there will be calls for things like the tearing down of Bear Bryant’s statue. Will Saban bend the knee when this happens?

Everyone has known that Saban is a democrat for a long arse time. The melt over this is ridiculous.

However, I fully support Alabama firing Nick Saban.
