Smalls, I am actually surprised you are the first person I have heard express this. It is hard to believe that many people believe what Obama believes.

It's completely demoralizing. I'd like to see a movement start to put up a fight. Perhaps it's too late.

Obama is a corporatist-centrist. He's nowhere close to being an extreme liberal

So, besides drugs and marriage, on what policies is Obama's "solution" to NOT grow government?

We did it all the way up until 1913 and became an economic juggernaut in the meantime. Even then, the super rich at the time only paid 1%. Nobody else paid income taxes.

well, you agree with me that the US shouldn't be the world's police right? We believe the US should close all its bases outside of the US, but should still have a strong defense. I think you also said some other useless departments should be closed, so that's a good chunk of the budget we just cut out. Income taxes only amount for 30% of the Federal governments total income and the amount is sales tax will grow tremendously if the income tax is eliminated.

Now you will also have to support ending the Federal Reserve and all NSA spying.

I have to go now, but if you are seriously interested these are good intro videos:

thats a logical fallacy. the industrial revolution is responsible for the tremendous growth of the 1900's not the income tax

We did it through tariffs.

I agree w/ you. I'm saying our economy boomed and we funded the legitimate functions of government for most of our history w/ no income tax. Then, I was just pointing out how low it was when initially introduced.

FTR, I'm 100% against any and all forms of income taxes.

eta; In hindsight, I could have worded the post you responded to a little better.

I have to go as well, but if the convo is not active tomorrow after work, I'll come back in and get it started again.

We had significant tariffs from our founding until the end of the Second World War. There is little evidence tariffs had much negative effect on our growth when they were reasonable. We negotiated free trade after World War II because we were the only free manufacturing economy left in the world and it was in our interests. We got two extremely prosperous decades out of it. Free Trade has fricked our country since the 1970s. We have shifted our revenue from foreigners and financiers to industry and the American people.

It's a world of extremes. My wife is a moderate democrat. I'm a moderate republican. We are dissatisfied with both parties, and wish they would go cliff diving.

The government as it is or how it "should be"?

That's a huge part of this equation.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa

There aren't any "moderate" democrats. There are radical liberal democrats who lie for 6 months before elections.

I am astounded that the media is constantly talking up how "extreme" the Republicans are when the dems presidential candidates ALWAYS come from their kook fringe and their leaders in Congress are pelosi and reid. Come to think of it, liberals never defend pelosi and reid do they?

You can't. The Union leaders and Trial Lawyers took over in the early 80's due to hatred of Reagan. The union dues and trial lawyers lawsuit money pay for the blacks block vote and lies in TV ads. I saw this first hand in the 80's and I
had to leave the party. I saw them completely lie about an incumbent Senator just to beat him[but didn't]. I personally saw Teachers Union leaders reading Communist books and Sol Alinsky books[anti-American] on their breaks and off time. I had to leave in '89 and I was very, very involved with elections.

Everybody read this guy's post. It's very instructive. He's a personal witness to the process of The New Left Radicals taking over the Democrat Party.
