I only donate directly to local churches in each area. Learned my lesson about TRC after Katrina.

A co-worker just got back from volunteering in Houston last weekend. He was there doing water rescues. He said the Coast Guard caught the Red Cross driving around with empty trucks when they were supposed to be/said they were hauling supplies. These trucks had nothing in them and the CG caught them lying about it.

Again? Wow frick TRC!

They did the same after Sandy

Martin should realize Mitch needs his trucks to haul away dangerous statues.

Samaritan's Purse is an excellent choice as well.

People get used to donating to familiar charities. It starts to become automatic. Many people, without thinking or checking, contribute to "The American Red Cross" while its sister organization, "The American Red Crotch" receives almost no support.

They're a good example of how organizations with large bureaucracies will be completely and totally ineffective.

They function like government.

They are the most inept unorganized organization I've ever experienced.
Maybe they are terribly inept and unorganized, but the guy works for the government, usually the textbook example of an inept organization. So he should probably have said, "most inept besides my own organization."

It, like many of these organizations, started off with good, honorable and needed cause and ended up becoming too big and too beaucratic.
It's sad

I know, I sure hope governments don't take a page from their playbook and become too big & beaurcatic. That would be a shame.
