Hey, we have done nothing but win since the election. The travel ban is just allowing us to catch our breath before reinstating another winning streak.

Right or wrong, Trump gave his opponents the perfect political hammer to beat him with and they are wearing him out with it. Politically, it was a terrible move.
It could not have been a worse move politically. It gave all of his opponents a rallying cry and re-energized them.

Exactly. Trump is up against a very powerful machine that is set to his destruction. It was so POLITICALLY idiotic to do the ban so soon before he even had his cabinet in and his SCOTUS pick in. He voluntarily gave away his momentum and gave his opponents a magic bullet to use against him on everything.
