Allegedly the next Antonin Scalia, but is he in fact another go along to get along Justice Roberts in the making?

Scalia was not only brilliant, but also impervious to criticism by his detractors. Neil Gorsuch is no Scalia. His "disheartened" complaint sounds a lot like sucking up to the Dems to me. This is not a promising start. Best way to dump him would be to not invoke the nuke option and simply fail to get the required 60 votes from the Senate. Then nominate Pryor and unleash the Senate nukes.

So not being afraid to state his opinion is a weakness? You actually want the President disparaging judges instead of respectfully pointing out why he thinks they're wrong about a given ruling?

Scalia wouldn't have wanted Trump saying shite like that either.

I say withdraw his nomination and put Cruz up for it. When the old hag goes, put Mike Lee up for that spot. Really tilt it to the right.

We can only hope he is similar to Roberts. The Supreme Court should never consider party views when interpreting the constitution. The best courts had some liberals, some conservatives, and some moderates. I've been studying a lot of Supreme Court history lately. Super interesting stuff.

Yes. Sometimes is is more than deserved. Presidents taking judges to task has a long pedigree.

I hate how Roberts get trashed for interpreting the law as written rather than injection his desires into the ruling.

The Dems out maneuvered republicans on that deal and made them look foolish. Roberts merely interpreted what was already on the books - the govt can tax people.

The Leftist judges almost always rule in a political fashion on the big issues. I want to fight fire with fire. I want seven equally political conservatives on the Court. Conservatives have to pull hard right just to prevent this country's lazy list to the Left.

This makes me question Gorsuch's judgment. All he had to say was, "The President is entitled to his opinion." That's it. The end of it.

And he should have known better than to say anything in front of Blumenthal. How stupid is that?

You should learn more about Scalia. To my point:

"I am something of a contrarian, I suppose. I feel less comfortable when everybody agrees with me. I say, 'I better reexamine my position!' I probably believe that the worst opinions in my court have been unanimous. Because there's nobody on the other side pointing out all the flaws."

"I attack ideas. I don't attack people. And some very good people have some very bad ideas. And if you can't separate the two, you gotta get another day job. You don't want to be a judge. At least not a judge on a multi-member panel."

"If you're going to be a good and faithful judge, you have to resign yourself to the fact that you're not always going to like the conclusions you reach. If you like them all the time, you're probably doing something wrong."

All Scalia.

Love the last one but his best quote is the one on character. I posted all that to say Scalia followed the law as it was written. The fact that he was called a conservative always makes me laugh. He was an originalist, period. Hence the last quote I posted.

This guy seems to have some thoughts.

We should all gather around and listen.

Have you considered that Blumenthal embellished not a little but A LOT? There is a reason that hearsay is frowned upon in rules of evidence except for narrow exceptions and even narrower exclusions.

Gorsuch's comments on what Blumenthal said that he said:

“Judge Gorsuch has made it very clear in all of his discussions with senators, including Senator Blumenthal, that he could not comment on any specific cases and that judicial ethics prevent him from commenting on political matters,” Ayotte said. “He has also emphasized the importance of an independent judiciary, and while he made clear that he was not referring to any specific case, he said that he finds any criticism of a judge’s integrity and independence disheartening and demoralizing.”

The above statement could refer to Trump and Obama. The latter of the two actually called out the Supreme Court in State of the Union address. So....

Seems like Gorsuch is a rule of law, stay in your lane, straight shooter to me.

ETA:
The fact that Gorsuch did not directly state the above but went through and intermediary given his position and possible future position says more than words on the respect that he has for the integrity of a judge.

This. We need 9 people who interpret the law. Not 4 who push one agenda or another and one who is in the middle.

WTF is wrong with people?

He called it a tax when the administration behind it said it absolutely was not a tax when they presented their case to him and the rest of the court.
