GOP OH Sen Portman preps bill which would automatically renew all old funding at old levels if gov't isn't funded

Remember Obama using the Govt shutdown to 'make it hurt' and it backfired but he and media still blamed the dumbass GOPe republicans?

Now there is no hijacking of the govt shutdown political crap with Portmans bill.

It's a headbanger I agree but it removes the democrats talking point of the bad republicans shutting down the government--that makes the GOPe act scared like ransom. It is a start in negotiating something....

I am awaiting news on Speaker Ryan doing his fricking job on repealing OCare.

Someone has to stop Republicans from destroying themselves?

I think it's a brilliant move by the Senate. Puts the ball right on Ryan and the Freedom Caucus.

So we get an Obama budget even though we elected a GOP president house and senate?

Government shutdown is a good thing - it saves us billions per day. It's like a fast. GOP should tout the benefits instead of being huge cucks and letting the MSM narrative swamp them per usual.

So now we can add passing a budget to the list of things Repubs can't do with total control of congress and the WH.

Smart move by Portman to undercut the Ted Cruz extremists in the House and Senate.

The Republicans should use a similar approach woth Healthcare- just tell the Freedom Cuckus that they had their chance and work out something between the moderate Dems and the moderate Reps.

And.... Y'all do remember how a bill becomes law? This is nothing more than grandstanding. He has been doing this for years.

Pretty much every single analysis shows that a government shutdown costs more money in the long term. The government has to pay furloughed employees later and they have to work overtime to catch up. Plus parks and other services that get shut down are revenue generating. Not to mention the economic costs. In 1996, the passport office stopped processing applications for passports, creating a huge problem for traveling American workers.

TL;DR: Government shut downs do not save money. They cost us more money every time.

OH MY GOD THATS GENIUS!

If we kept current spending for the government, even at Ryan/Obama levels, and just didn't increase, we'd have a surplus within a decade. I mean, the wall wouldn't get funded, but it would still be a victory.

Yes let's make it easy on congress to not have to make tough choices and actually form a budget.

Or Americans can give Mexicans the money to pay for the wall. Sort of a hidden tax....for some, more hidden than others.
