Sheer insanity - this is what the GOPe has become

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed legislation that will remove the statutes of limitation for sexual abuse crimes.

Rauner signed the measure Friday. Sponsor state Sen. Michael Hastings of Frankfort says the legislation puts in place "best practices for dealing with sexual assault cases statewide and puts a system in place that will encourage survivors to come forward and receive justice when they are ready."

Statutes of limitation restrict the time when authorities can charge someone after a crime occurs. The legislation Rauner signed removes those limitations for felony criminal sexual abuse and sex crimes against children. That will allow for the prosecution of those crimes at any time.

Under previous law victims had to report crimes within 20 years after turned 18. The legislation goes into effect immediately.

He signs this shite but is likely to support Rahm Emmanuel and Chicagos suit against Trump administration re: sanctuary city status.

Probably why he signed it. "Tough on crime/sex offenses" is easy fodder to gain political capital.

Afraid theyre finally going to be able to get you? Lol

I swear this board has some really bad motives. Confederacy heroes are great and you shouldnt be able to pursue the justice of Bill Cosby when you finally get the courage.

No one wants victims to not get their justice. This just seems to open up a lot of problems and will most likely not be effective.

Eliminating these SOL's will only increase the rate of false convictions. The longer these charges take, the less likely there is any corroborative evidence to support the accusation. The longer these charges take, the less likely someone is to remember what actually happened. Our memories are not snapshots or photographs and are completely unreliable after a certain period of time.

A SOL protects an accused's right to a fair and speedy trial. Eliminating them prejudices Defendants, especially in sexual assault cases, where often the only evidence is the accuser's statement.

It's more likely innocent people will be prosecuted the longer you increase SoL. It's also less likely any reliable testimony or prosecutable evidence exists. It's a net-negative scenario.

Sandusky was only nailed because of the overwhelming, multiple testimonies from multiple victims and witnesses.

I understand but in many cases, see Bill Cosby, the victims feel alone and it eats at them, slowly destroying their lives. One oerson steps forward and then more.

If it's just one individual sexual assaulted be a lot harder but it definitely opens the door for high-profile cases and people being able to finally meet Justice

Because people are sick of DemoKKKrats. All this racist crap, statues, and other BS are ALL that they have. They have no power anywhere. Dems better concentrate on the 2018 midterms because if they don't win back the House or Senate they are in for a world of hurt.

Now rapists and sexual predators will have no choice but to murder every woman and child that they sexually assault to make sure there are no witnesses to their evil crimes.

We'll probably need to wait and see if this has a huge impact in either direction. A victim of a sexual crime shouldn't be subject to an arbitrary time limitation before they lose the opportunity to come forward, but I'm also open to the argument that this could be exploited. Tough call.
