From his transition website

Modernize Medicare, so that it will be ready for the challenges with the coming retirement of the Baby Boom generation – and beyond

Hopefully this is pushing some of the teat suckers off the nipple and make them pay for their own healthcare! Or at least pay for more of it, and for longer.

If they seriously address medicare, I will go full MAGA. It has to address the sinkhole that are current benefits though, not just for GenX/Millenials.

Medicare was setup as a trap. Any regime that fricks with it will certainly be the death knell for them. 2018 would see Dems take 30+ plus seats. These baby boomers dont play round.

Interesting. Does anyone think this means more shifting towards an ACO model?

Ryan plan on medicare?

LINK

quote:

Starting in 2022, the age of eligibility for Medicare would increase by two months per year until it reached 67 in 2033.
After 2022, the current Medicare program ends for all people who have not already enrolled. People already enrolled in the current Medicare program prior to 2022 would continue to receive the program. New enrollees after 2022 would be entitled to a voucher to help them purchase private health insurance.

Its a good start, but really should address current spending that is far too high.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't that box somewhere in the upper right hand corner of your w-2 form all about Medicare deductions from your paycheck?

You're going to need some pretty significant term limits if you expect SS or Medicare to get any real overhauls. No one with plans to stick around DC for long will lay a finger on them.

It was sold as an insurance scheme, but in reality its tax and spend.

Current benefits are 80/20. What's wrong with that?

So a boomer paid in a total of...lets say $95,000 (generous) to the Medicare "pot" during their working years.

Their cancer treatment, at 67 years old, cost $110,000 in medicare payouts.

How is it NOT an entitlement moving forward?

You should probably go read up on time value of money and repost your argument with numbers that better support your argument

Could have been done in the last eight years? Nah, the political football was too hot then I suppose.

I would wager that most people who don't believe that medicare is an entitlement are people who either receive it or are about to.

And I am sure that they think social security disability is an entitlement (it is), but works under this basic premise too.

And I am also guessing that they believe the promises gov't made to them around SS/medicare, but don't trust other things the gov't said.

The only thing trunk is going to do with Medicare is see that his son in law's brother - who has a medical insurance company - gets paid.

Agreed. I am pretty liberal on most issues except for this one.

Errr, you don't recall the grand bargain? tea party tanked what little bipartisan support it had.
