Though I definitely do not agree with many of his political/economic stances (though I understand he has a different perspective given where he grew up) I applaud him for dragging Christianity kicking and screaming across the threshold of scientific progress.

Considering he's the head of a faction of the church that has essentially thrown away the Bible in favor of councils and papal decrees, I don't find this statement shocking whatsoever.

The church has embraced the Big Bang for some time as it accounts for a beginning and end of time

The whole concept of a pope and papal infallibility is 180 degrees opposite from Biblical teaching about the nature of God.

What kind of moronic article is that?

There is so much wrong with that article that I don't even know how to respond to it.

FFS, Francis was literally quoting Benedict XVI on the Big Bang and Creation during this talk.

And OP, you're aware that the Big Bang theory was thought up by a Catholic priest, right? And that this talk was given at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, right?

First, he doesn't speak for all of Christianity. Second, a faith filled believer can believe what they want to believe and all your precious "scientific progress" can pound sand if a Christian, for example, doesn't care to buy into it so this notion that I or anyone else who is a believer has to accept anything we are told from the science community is hogwash.

So now it's a waste of time to pray for someone who's sick?

This pope is the poster child for the unscriptual teachings of the Catholic church.

The modern Catholic Church has been fairly reasonable in regards to science

The bible told us there was a beginning to the universe far far before science did.

For centuries, many who devoted their lives to science said we had to accept that the universe was always there.

You seem to have a very un-Christian view of God.

It's mostly evangelical Christians who love Jesus riding a dinosaur.
