The future lies in the East. We owe China a LOT of money and economic power rules in the modern world. We pissed away our power due to greed over the last 50 years.

Very simplistic way of looking at it, owing China a lot of money they can't ever collect on is their problem more than it is the US's.

The Fed counterfeits our money out of thin air anyway. Why not just cut them a $10 trillion dollar check? The only reason the US can keep the global economic shell game going is because the dollar is still the reserve currency for the world. If that ever changes, bye bye US economic supremacy. And that situation is only enforced by US military supremacy. The script will flip one day soon. The entire global economic system is unsustainable.

Maybe we have different definitions of devastating. Europe can handle a complete economic sanction of Russia. The USA and Middle East can offset Russia - prices would go up and it would hurt European economies but it wouldn't ruin the European economy. With the weather warming and the large reserves most European countries have it could easily be weathered.
It would completely destroy Russia's economy however. That's why I don't think the statement "Russia needs Europe more than Europe needs Russia" is overly simplistic.
ETA: Even though I think Europe can handle it, I don't think that shutting out Russia completely is a good idea. It would cause chaos in Russia, making a lot of people very desperate and some of those people will have access to very powerful weapons.
