OP asked for a good reason. I think I gave him one. I realize it may not be THE reason but it is a legitimate point to consider.

I understand there are devices currently being developed to do just this. Once they are proven to work and available for sale, I will drop my opposition.

I can't. But, alcohol would be a better comparison.

There's not a reliable and inexpensive way to test for level of marijuana intoxication for driving purposes. I understand that they are working on this problem now.

Intoxication effects of a small amount of alcohol is lower than for marijuana. Meaning that someone can have a beer or glass or wine and not be significantly intoxicated enough to be impaired. The effect of marijuana is generally and relatively more immediate.

Steady use of marijuana, even in small doses, has more of a deleterious health effect than that of steady use of small doses of alcohol.
Meaning that a person who smokes a joint per day will have more negative health effects than a person who consumes one beer or glass of wine per day.

For the reasons I stated earlier, I have to respectfully disagree.

You are correct, of course.

Marijuana enthusiasts have gone overboard in vilifying alcohol as a way to get pot legalized. The arguments have some merit, and I think legalization should happen, but this notion that marijuana is some miracle herb with no ill effects is absurd.

Find a cost effective and reliable way to determine if someone is intoxicated on marijuana, and the resistence to legalization will melt away.

The idea that methamphetamine has an incredibly low rate of harmful effect on others is laughable. I see tremendous amounts of harm caused to others by users of it almost daily.

That chart is laughable.

"Overall harm score"!

Tres scientific!

Resistance will melt away when the baby boomers start dying off. The lack of testing measures isnt a significant reason why most oppose it, hell most people couldnt even tell you if there was a field test for it or not.

Wrong. Impossible to make these type of generalizations. Definitely varies case by case.

Link to this study? Would love to take a look at it.

Alcohol probably kills more people in a year than weed does in a decade or two, if any.

I just chuckle at the hypocrisy of some people who are the biggest alcoholics that I know is full blown holy roller on keeping weed illegal.
