When it comes to NK we SHOULD NOT be reactive but proactive.

When you allow yourself to buy into the notion of pre-emptive war, you relinquish all other options to prevent war. Our politicians and media are all too willing to frighten the hell out of us so we'll support said wars, while the politicians, mainstream media and defense contractors all get rich and laugh at what dupes we are in Middle America at their D.C. or NYC cocktail parties.

I see a lot of people that think Lil Kim knows better. But does he? For all we know this guy may actually believe he has a puncher chance at destabilizing the US with a few nukes. Sure, he knows we will counter strike but is he just crazy enough to think he can withstand it and come out maybe bruised but also more respected on the world stage?

Something else I haven't seen discussed much is the willingness to die. The same resiliency and blind hatred for the US the Japs showed during WWII. Is Kim the craziest one? Or does he have subordinates that are just as hate filled crazy as he is and just as eager to be a martyr.

Not to mention the relationship NK has with Iran. If NK has this capability do you think it wont, or hasn't bee, shared / sold to Iran? Not to mention ISIS and the others that want to destroy the world on their way to the afterlife.

Basically, what im saying is NK having the capability creates a shite storm of possibilities that are very frightening. I hope some how this goes without war but the reality is the game is changing and at some point something will need to be done

Of course I do. That's why I said I hope that isn't your only qualification for going to war, because there is a lot of context that needs to be considered.

Talk is cheap, especially on the internet.

Anyone who is flippant about going to war is a fool.

Lil Kim spent almost a decade in the West (schooling in Switzerland) so he can't help but understand the difference in power levels between our two countries. Unless China is secretly prodding him, he won't shoot first.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but you can never underestimate the psychological impact of drinking your own koolaid and 24/7 self affirmation.

When you're told you're infallible for an extended period of time, you begin to believe it's true.

Actually we have a lot to gain and so does the rest of the world.

A little bit of peace from a xenophobic country that can barely feed itself is worth the millions of lives (ie: Seoul, and I mean the term "millions" quite literally) this war would cost? The "little bit of peace" is a maybe at best because I simply can't see China not rushing in to fill the power vacuum.

What's most likely to happen on that front is that while we attack from the south, China pours in a few hundred thousand troops from the north and takes Pyonyang then installs a puppet (or just absorbs them).

So in the end this would weaken the screaming frick out of SOKO while strengthening China's control of the peninsula.

I agree but I really don't think he's delusional enough to fire first. I think he still gets free and unfiltered information (unlike everyone else in NK) and by doing so he can see the vast discrepancies in forces.

I'm hoping China finally decides they've had enough and decide to take it upon themselves to conduct a coup that removes Kim. China can install their own puppet government there.

Kim is a lot smarter than people give him credit for.

IMO he's defied all odds to get to this point. I don't really understand his end game but he's clearly a survivor and a ruthless and cunning leader to the extent that he's still standing and they have pseudo ICBM nuke capabilities.

Even at the height of the Cold War, there were always a couple of smart guys in the rooms (our rooms & their rooms) to prevent someone from actually launching; we also had 'back channels'. With NK we have no back channels and I'm pretty sure NK doesn't have any smart guys in the room and no matter how much any of us think Un is just talking shite, we just can't take that chance bc there may be no recovering from a mistake that big.

I think there are some at the higher levels but I think many are paper tigers due to the large influx of media materials from SOKO (USB sticks with lots of current news and entertainment). I think once bombs started dropping and forces started invading (especially the Chinese from the north), Kim and some of his inner circle will hide in a bunker and take Hitler's way out.

You may very well be correct. I'm just saying that type of environment can foster extremely radical and illogical behavior.

I'm not worried at all about their relationship with Iran, I'm much more concerned about their relationships with Russia and China. Although both Russia and China joined in this latest UN Security Council vote I could see them also setting this up just to be a Red Wedding (with Kim being ignorant of it all, like Roslin Frey had she not had foreknowledge).
